INFORMATION ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL REGISTRATION
ATTENDANCE: EVERY MINUTE MATTERS
Many parents seem surprised when we explain the district policy regarding school attendance. Please note: The statewide average absence rate for typical childhood illness is 5 days. FCUSD allows each child up to 10 days of “parent/guardian excused illness” without verification from a medical professional.
Absences for illnesses not verified by a medical professional past 10 days will be marked unexcused and subject the student and/or parents to compulsory education law guidelines.
California State Law requires parents of students ages 6-18 to send their children to school, unless provided by law. An absence is considered “excused” for these reasons:
*student illness
*for purpose of having medical, dental, vision, or chiropractic services
rendered
*court appearance
*death in the student’s immediate family
*observation of a religious holiday or ceremony
All else is deemed “unexcused” per California law.
Folsom Middle School is working to be certified as a Marzano High Reliability School
What does this mean and why is it important? Folsom Middle School staff works hard to provide our students with the best learning experiences to prepare students for their futures. The High Reliability Schools Framework is a researched based format that is proven to ensure that ALL students will learn and be prepared for their success in the future.
There are 5 levels for certification and schools/districts that are certified as a High Reliability School maintain evidence to prove they sustain the expectations of leading indicators in each of the 5 levels. If schools are not able to prove this, they then must determine what is needed to improve in the area to meet the expected indicators. This keeps the school continually working to PROVE or IMPROVE in the proven areas that ensure success for ALL students.
The FMS Leadership Team is excited to lead the departments to meet these expectations. Students, parents, and staff are all part of the process. We look forward to working together as we reach the certification process in each level of the HRS Framework. Below are the levels that make up the High Reliability Schools Network. Currently we are working on certification for Level 1.
