A Message from Your Principal

Hello, PIntos!

I can not believe this is the last official Pinto Press of the 2020-2021 school year! We have been through so much together. I am so proud of the grit and grace everyone has shown to one another this year. Every student, teacher, staff member, parent/guardian, and family member have given it their all to make this an incredible year of learning and fun for every student. Thank you for your continued support!

Thank you to Scholastic books, who are again providing a set of summer reading books and workbook for every student in OPS. Your child may have brought home their set, complete with a green tote bag, this week. If not, watch for them next week. Families of our remote students, please come to the school anytime next week to pick up your child's bag.

They can use these books to help meet OPS's summer reading challenge! Check out the information about it below. Let's go Pintos!!

If you ordered a yearbook, they were sent home. But it's not too late! The order form is below. They are $15 and checks should be made out to Picotte PTA.

In late April, you received an email from the district, inviting you to complete a climate survey. It is one of many ways I seek input to ensure Picotte is the best school we can possibly be. If you are not able to locate your survey, please contact the school.

The Remote Learning Program will conclude at the end of May 2021. If you are still interested in a blended learning environment for your current OPS student, be sure to check out that email to learn more about the Omaha Virtual School. The application for it will open on May 10 and close on June 4.

We welcome Mr. Jeremy Sczepaniak as our new PE teacher and Mrs. Traci Cadwallader as our new 2nd grade teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Sczepaniak student taught here this year. He brings great energy, and students enjoyed learning from him. Mrs. Cadwallader comes to us from another OPS school. We welcome her experience, passion for teaching and learning, and love of students to Picotte.

I am excited to share that we will have one OPSF (Omaha Public Schools Foundation) Early Childhood classroom next year! If you have a 4 year old, please consider registering them for this fabulous parent-pay classroom. Call the school for information.

The office will close for the summer on June 4. Please continue to check your emails and our website for updated information over the summer. This will include our suggested supply lists, opening information, and other important information to help us get the 2021-2022 school year started off smoothly.

Please reach out if you have any questions or if we can help in any way.

Enjoy the weekend.

With Pinto Pride,

Mrs. Schovanec

Are you up for a challenge? Check out OPS's Summer Reading Challenge!

As you know, reading over the summer is critical to helping students continue to develop their literacy skills. We are challenging each student to read at least TWENTY MINUTES DAILY over the summer. Our district goal is to read 1,000,000 minutes collectively. We can do it! Click the attachments below for more.

Counselor's Corner

Just a quick note of gratitude to all of you parents who have been close communication with us and supporting your child and all of us here at Picotte through such an unusual year. We are so grateful to all of you.

My very best to you all, and many thank yous.
