A Dash of Salt - Motivation
Does your frustration cause you to yell, scream, beg, punish, and throw your hands up in despair?
Does your helplessness cause you to start fighting with your spouse, who never seems to do as much as you think they should do to get your child motivated?
Does your fear about your child’s underachieving cause you to keep trying to get him to change and to be more motivated?

Teacher Wish Lists
It's a new year and our teachers could use some fresh supplies! We have collected Wish List items from teachers and staff. If you are willing to donate items, please sign up and send them in with your student(s) when you get a chance! We will be leaving this sign-up live for a while. You can view the sign-ups here. Please note: due to the large number of items/staff, I have broken the lists out into individual grade levels, Support Staff, and Specials. You should be able to view a tab for each level - on a mobile device, it may show up as a drop down menu. Thank you for continuing to show our staff that we appreciate all they do!
Sleds
Last week, the PTO purchased 10 new sleds for recess, all of which were destroyed before the last lunch of the day. The Gibson Family generously has donated another 15 sleds for the students to use at recess. Please take a moment to remind your students to be respectful of school equipment so ALL the children get a chance to use them!
Family Game Night scheduled for January 26th has been canceled.
As always, please check out our Facebook page and/or website for the most up to date information this year.
Lunch Information
Lunch
NOTE: If your child is a COLD LUNCH, the cost of a milk is $.50. It is NOT FREE. If your child gets a HOT LUNCH, the milk is included in the free Federal grant lunch.

Virtual Library/STEAM Activities for Home!
Many of our students have asked if they can do our library activities at home, and the answer is YES! I create virtual choice boards each month for the students, and they are located on our Library website, along with other activities that we do during their Library/STEAM time each week. If you'd like them to explore at home, you can get to the Library website through the Spencer Elementary website under quick links or directly at http://spencerlsc.weebly.com/library-activities.html. Enjoy!

Note From the Counselor
Counselor Corner!
Happy New Year from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! We hope you had a well rested, and memory filled, time with your loved ones. For the month of January we are diving into mindfulness, yoga, and other practices that treat the mind, body, and soul. The goal of these lessons is to promote self-regulation and self-reflection in our young learners, as well as to practice a sense of peace and calm during our days.
Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!
