Cooper Landing School
Congratulations to Linnaea Gossard for 5th place in the High School Battle of the Books competition.
This week we have a 5/6 team and a 3/4 team competing.
Wednesday, February 10 at 9:30 am - Grades 5/6
Thursday, February 11 at 9:30 am - Grades 3/4
Teams will participate in 4 rounds. The 4 teams with the highest scores will move on to the final round which will be held at 1:00 pm each day.
State finals are the week of February 22.
Our mitigation plan has been approved and we are finalizing plans for skiing at Alyeska in the coming weeks! The dates are:
February 16, 23, 26
March 1, 16, 19
Please be sure to get your paperwork turned in, and if you plan on helping with transportation other than your own child, be sure to complete the volunteer background check application at https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/employment.aspx?id=19556. It takes a little time to get the background check done, so please do this ASAP. Thank you to the ones who have already completed the process.
As soon as we have more information, we will pass it along.
Due to scheduling conflicts, we will be celebrating Valentines Day on Wednesday, February 17, which is also an early release day. The District has changed the pickup time to 1:45.
Students can have construction paper from school to make Valentine's cards at home. Just let Tommy know. We currently have 11 students.
Virtual Field Trip to Learn About Penguins
Today, the K-2 students went on a virtual field trip to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium
In Omaha, Nebraska, courtesy of the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaborations (CILC). They learned all about penguins and enjoyed every minute! Omaha's Antarctic penguin habitat is home to three species of penguin—kings, gentoos and rockhoppers—all of which reside in the sub-Antarctic regions surrounding Antarctica.

Please return permission slips for Alyeska by Wednesday the 3rd. Let me know if you need additional copies. We are also looking for a few volunteers to chaperone on the hill, as we may have quite a few students free skiing this year. If you're interested in volunteering, you must have your volunteer paperwork already filled out and filed with the district, and you will also need to fill out a volunteer indemnification statement. Let me know if you need one!
A friendly reminder that all students out sick, regardless of whether they have been sent home from school, or you have opted to keep them home must follow district protocol for COVID19 quarantining. This means they must quarantine for 10 days AND not return until they have been symptom free for 24 hours OR they may get tested and return to school after a negative test result AND remaining symptom free for 24 hours. Students must be medication free to be considered symptom free.
More information is available on the district website: https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/students_parents.aspx?id=41540 and from our school nurse: yifflander@kpbsd.k12.ak.us
