Squalicum High School

Storm Forecast for February 19-26

Greetings Storm Families

We are very excited to continue our school year with the return of live instruction. We will continue to provide opportunities for students to create connections with each other and with staff, to develop passion and purpose in the learning, and to establish (or re-establish) our sense of belonging in the Storm Family.

Teachers continue to develop strategies to fit the instructional delivery method. They have created online platforms, developed small group strategies, adjusted lessons, and engaged in problem-solving with each other. All staff are working creatively and with focus to prepare our classrooms and the whole building for the return of students.

Families can complete the Return to School Preference Survey for each of your children that attend Squalicum. This will help us as we plan how best to accommodate all students. Your family decision will be supported by our staff and we are prepared to answer your questions. You can direct questions to any administrator, counselor, or staff member and we will get answers to you quickly. We will be sending a training PowerPoint to your family very soon and we are creating a video to demonstrate our safety protocols in action at SQHS. We are hoping these soon-to-be-released resources are helpful in answering many of your questions. You may also want to review the district Safety Protocols.

Students are encouraged to stay focused on completing the A-day classes with diligence. Excellent progress in those four classes will help you settle into the B-day cycle, and the new schedule, with determination. We are here for you as we all engage in yet another change.

Finally, I encourage all members of our community to remember to extend empathy to each other. Listen carefully to understand and inquire when you do not understand. Support each other with love and patience. And if you notice any signs for concern in verbal or non-verbal communication, extend care and encouragement. We are all adjusting to the ever-changing situations uniquely and we want to support each student, family, and staff member as needs arise.

With respect,

Marty Atkins, Assistant Principal.
