- Beginning at 8am on May 31, sunscreen may be dropped off to Memorial's office.
- By 2pm on June 17, sunscreen must be picked up in Memorial's office.
We appreciate your support with these guidelines as we head into our annual June celebrations.

Vocabulary Parade
On Wednesday, May 22nd our third graders paraded through the halls of Memorial School during their annual Vocabulary Parade. More than 150 students, inspired by the book Miss Alaineus, dressed up as their favorite vocabulary words and eventually made their way to the cafeteria where they marched across the stage sharing each unique word with the audience. #CreativityInAction

Workshop Visit- Hartford Public Schools- May 20th
On May 20th and 21st, a group of educators from the Hartford Public School system visited our K-2 classrooms to observe reading and writing workshop sessions. Corinne Barney, principal of Betances Early Reading Lab, will be leading her staff as they transition to a workshop model next year. After hearing about the amazing literacy work taking place at Memorial School, Ms. Barney reached out to inquire about bringing a team of teachers to our building to see our workshop routines, practices, and environments “in action”. As a community of professional learners, we eagerly welcomed our Hartford colleagues to exhibit the impressive independence of our student readers, writers and thinkers!
Disability Awareness Week
All first grade students participated in a disability awareness lesson this week to educate and encourage acceptance, awareness, and assistance regarding others who have disabilities. They got first hand experience using equipment such as crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, and engaged in a simulation of vision impairment. These lessons will culminate in a grade-wide fundraiser to help children in CT who have Muscular Dystrophy. Thursday, May 30th during recess will be Memorial School's 8th annual 1st grade Hop-A-Thon for the CT Muscular Dystrophy Association. Donation forms and parent permission slips were sent home and should be returned by 5/30. The students are very excited to hop to help! #TakingCareofOthers

Annual Writing Celebration
Throughout the week of May 20th - May 24th, the work of our student writers was proudly displayed in the gymnasium. Classes visited throughout the week to read narrative, informational, and opinion pieces across grade levels. An Open House event on Wednesday evening, May 22nd, brought our whole community together to marvel over the hard work, perseverance, and creativity of our student writers! #WeAreProudWriters
Community Service Jog-A-Thon
Ms. Ryczek & Ms. Forcellina's learners teamed up for a community service jog-a-thon! They identified that one of the bigger problems they see in the world is that people aren’t taking care of animals…and they are ready to change that! They dedicated their jog-a-thon to Running for Rescues, an organization that funds medical and transportation bills for animals so adoption agencies can find them their forever homes! Their efforts were celebrated by many classes, staff, and family members! #WeAreTheChange
