Disciplinary Literacies Institute
Tuesday, Jun 26, 2018, 09:00 AM
301 Porter Building, EMU, Ypsilanti, MI, United States
Together we will explore
What successful communication looks like at the secondary and college level;
What successful communication and writing look like in various disciplines;
What demands all teachers face in secondary and post-secondary writing instruction, particularly in science, social studies and math;
What we can do to best prepare students to meet the disciplinary demands of college and career writing;
How these ideas connect to Michigan Standards, Common Core Standards, Next Gen Science Standards, and the new Michigan Essential Practices for Literacy Instruction.
We will
- Share ideas across grade levels;
- Learn from currently practicing teachers about Disciplinary Literacies in the social studies, math, science, and ELA classrooms;
- Hear from people outside of the academic community about what literacy looks like in their professional lives;
- Hear from students who are making the transition from high school to college writing;
- Plan curricula and assignments that will help students become truly college ready.
