This week:
Our language arts focus this week was identifying the beginning, middle and end of stories as well as picking out the problem and how it was solved (the solution). Students are now terrific at naming the characters and the setting of a story. When you are reading with your kiddo as you tuck them in each night please ask them to tell you about the parts of the story you are reading, have them name things like the characters, setting, problem and solution.
The sight words for next week are: purple, pink and brown (after Thanksgiving)
Your little mathematicians are becoming terrific at using different strategies to solve addition problems. We focused this week on using number bonds and the number line to solve addition story problems. We will turn our focus to subtraction after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sound Cabinet: Letter R(the week following Thanksgiving)
Your little authors this week have practiced writing books that are all about the one subject. We read the mentor text called, Big Mamma by, Donald Crews. We talked about how the entire book was about a visit to the little boy's grandmother's house. There were lots of parts of the story but the whole story was about seeing Big Momma at her house. We will continue practice writing stories about one subject.
This week we started a wonder wall where kids can write down what they are curious about. We will be exploring their wonderings as time goes on. This week the wonders we explored are; how big are our hands and we did some investigation on a huge bird that landed outside our window. Interesting stuff. It has been fun to let them take the lead.
It has been a great week, thank you for sharing your children with me!

Discovery Scoop
Hello wonderful parents! This is Mrs. Foust with our news from Discovery. This week we continued our unit on Family with reading a book about Grandparents. Students had fun with a puzzle day and painting turkeys! For Social Skills, we discussed empathy and how our bodies can help us know how we are feeling. We also played a fun class game called Builders and Bulldozers. Ask your child if they can tell you how it is played!
