Consol boys basketball team loses to The Woodlands
Overwhelming A&M Consolidated with a sizzling second quarter, the 17th-ranked Highlanders hammered the Tigers 55-32 in a District 14-5A boys basketball game Friday night. "We have to bounce back," Consol coach Rick German said. "We are playing our crosstown rival at their place. They are playing with a lot of confidence, and we are reeling off two losses. I'm real concerned about it."
The Woodlands girls down Consol
The Woodlands Lady Highlanders stayed atop 14-5A at 9-0 with a 45-26 victory over A&M Consolidated. Beth Ashley led the Lady Tigers (8-17, 3-7) with 7. She was followed by Tori Carraway and Callie Eddnes with 6 each.
Tiger Soccer
Consol Men's Soccer Team finished their non-conference games with a 6-1-2 record. The Tigers played in the Lufkin Panther Showcase this past weekend. The Tigers beat John Tyler 2-1 on Thursday afternoon (goals by Daniel Zivney and Jacob Ward). Consol later tied Nacogdoches on Friday (goal by Jacob Ward). Finally, the Tigers beat Willis 3-1 on Saturday morning (goals by Shay Williams, Joshua Schechter, and Jacob Ward). Consol's next game will be against Lufkin at Tiger Stadium on Tuesday 5th February at 6pm for their first district game.
Lady Tiger Soccer
A&M Consolidated went 1-1-1 in the Lady Governor’s Cup this weekend. The Lady Tigers lost to Vandergrifft 2-0, tied Kingwood Park 1-1 and beat Cibolo Steele 1-0. Consol’s Mycah Miller had a goal off an assist from Maddie Wilke against Kingwood Park. Miller scored the game-winner against Steele off an assist from Megan Lewis. Consol (4-2-2) will open district play at Lufkin on Feb. 5.
Cheshire selected as Consol MVP
Senior quarterback and punter Jaylan Cheshire, a key injury replacement who later suffered a serious injury, was chosen as Tiger MVP of the A&M Consolidated football team. The Tigers went 9-3, winning a share of the District 14-5A championship and reaching the second round of the state playoffs. Cheshire became the starting quarterback after Weston Garner suffered a knee injury during Consol’s preseason scrimmage. Cheshire helped the Tigers get through a brutal nondistrict schedule highlighted by a road win over defending state champion Lake Travis. Cheshire fractured a bone in his leg against Bryan, but was able to play as a reserve in the playoffs.
Consol girls win district swimming title & boys take 3rd
The A&M Consolidated girls edged The Woodlands 144-143 to finish first, while the boys finished third at the District 19-5A meet Saturday at Conroe ISD Natatorium. Consol coach Ryan Goodwin was named district coach of the year. The Lady Tigers won three relays en route to their district title.
