BVES Parents,

I hope this message finds you well. We wanted to take a moment to remind you that Custodian Appreciation Day is just around the corner, on October 3rd. This is an opportunity for us as a school community to express our gratitude and recognition for the hard work and dedication of our custodial staff at Blanco Vista Elementary.

Our custodians play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, teachers, and staff. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our school remains a place where everyone can thrive, learn, and grow. From keeping classrooms clean to maintaining our facilities, their efforts are truly invaluable.

Head Custodian - Michael Murray

Lead Custodian – Michelle Corona

Custodian – Jamie Hernandez

Custodian – Tyler Pickering

We believe that Custodian Appreciation Day is a perfect opportunity to show our appreciation and support for our custodial team. We encourage you to consider joining us in celebrating this day by:

1. **Writing Thank You Notes**: Encourage your child to write a thank you note or draw a picture to express their gratitude. These small gestures can mean a lot to our custodians.

2. **Gift Cards**: If you're interested, you can also consider donating a gift card . You can drop off these items at the school office.

4. **Social Media Shoutouts**: Share your appreciation for our custodians on social media.

We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and hardworking custodial team at Blanco Vista Elementary, and we hope you will join us in making Custodian Appreciation Day special for them.

Thank you for your support, and let's come together as a community to show our custodial staff how much we appreciate their efforts in keeping our school clean and safe.

Sincerely,

Thank you.

Universal Screener Parent Letter 2023-24

Dear Hays CISD Parent,

To help our reading and mathematics teachers quickly identify student strengths and areas for improvement, we now have Universal Screeners Kindergarten through 8th grade district wide:

  • For reading, elementary students are assessed with mCLASS and middle school students are assessed with Reading Plus, Mindplay or HMH

  • For our elementary bilingual programs, students are assessed with Lectura

  • These reading screeners include a dyslexia screener at grades K,1,2,and 7.

  • And for mathematics, students in grades K-7 are assessed with NWEA’s MAP Growth screener

Universal screening measures consist of brief assessments focused on target skills that are highly predictive of future outcomes and help identify where students may have gaps in learning or struggle with grade level skills. These screeners will help to individualize instruction and guide the best intervention, if needed.

These consistent, research-based assessments are administered three times a year and quickly provide teachers with not only baseline achievement scores and growth measures, but also specific strengths and areas of improvement for each individual student.

We are committed to one years’ growth for each student and providing necessary help to our students. The assessment data helps identify a student’s instructional level so that we can plan for instruction.

In the week following the screeners, you should expect reports detailing your child’s scores. The information in the report should help you answer questions such as:

  • What instructional level is my child on?

  • Is my child making adequate growth?

  • Why or why not?

Over the course of the assessment windows, there will be a brief interruption to services as our interventionists and dyslexia teachers are a part of the assessment team. Please keep in mind these assessments are for instructional purposes and the data will help identify a student’s instructional level.

We look forward to a great school year and meeting the instructional needs of all of our students. Thank you for partnering with us.
