Happy New Year!

Dear LP Families,

Happy Friday and...Happy New Year!!

As much as I enjoyed the time off to celebrate the holidays with my family, it felt good to get back into my routine this week. It was great to see our students; we missed them!

We are starting the new year off with some pretty great things! In addition to our drama club and intramurals, we added three more clubs for students to enjoy: Creativity club, Yearbook Club, and Sewing club! We were delighted to see such interest from our students! Don't worry if your student wasn't selected this round, we are hoping to add more opportunities in the near future.

As a whole school, we are continuing our discussions around family and traditions. We have a community circle coming up where we are reading the book, Winter Candle by Jeron Ashford. Students are getting a special surprise to help enhance the story! Stay tuned. We will also be sharing a traditions video put together by our very own Ameen Smith. Some of our LP families were brave enough to record their family tradition; I can't wait to share the final product! It's so good. Finally, later this month classrooms will be paired up to share their own family traditions with each other. It's a great way to learn about all the amazing cultures that make up our school. We will be sure to capture these moments and share with our LP community!

Here's hoping for a safe, healthy, and happy 2023!

Have a nice weekend,

Dr. Bello

Safety Update:

A note about 'arrival procedures':

We have now completed a few days where we tightened up our arrival/drop-off procedures. I'm happy with the progress we have made to ensure our kids are safe getting out of their cars and into the building. I have received positive feedback on the improved measures. I have also heard the concerns around the process taking longer or families having to wait in line. I am hoping the safety of our students is something we can prioritize over the inconvenience this may cause for some. I truly appreciate the support!

Library Corner

News from Mrs. Costello

This week in the library, we are reading The Biggest Snowman Ever and students are writing their 2023 goals on a snowball so we can build our very own LP snowman full of resolutions for 2023! Fourth and fifth graders have started coming to the library during lunch to play chess! Lance, our library pumpkin, is about six weeks old now and students love coming in to check his (yucky) progress and make predictions as we talk about the plant cycle.

We appreciate families giving students rapid COVID tests but there is a lot of respiratory illness going around too. Common symptoms reported are sore throat, headache, and fever. If your child is experiencing these symptoms, please keep them home and reach out to your pediatrician for guidance.
