January 27, 2016

Hello Jackson Families,

We hope you can join us this evening, Wednesday, January 27, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., in the Jackson Library for a parent workshop titled, "What are Our Children Doing in the Digital Age?". In this workshop, our facilitator will discuss ways to keep our kids safe when using today's technology. Child care will be available and refreshments will be served.

All grade levels enjoyed listening to author Steve Swinburne this morning. He mesmerized the students as he shared stories about his many adventures and travels across the globe meeting and learning about a variety of wildlife! Students also gained insight on how to generate ideas for writing and learned helpful hints on how be the best writers possible.

Thank you to PTA for sponsoring another excellent author visit to Jackson Elementary!

The Texas Education Agency Has Released 2014-2015 School Report Cards

The State of Texas 2014-2015 School Report Card for Jackson Elementary has now been released, and posted to the Jackson Elementary website. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures. The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and is briefly described in the “School Report Card Definitions.” If you have any questions concerning the School Report Card, please let us know. Thank you for your continued support of Jackson Elementary.

Jackson Bookworm Challenge

The library is sponsoring the Jackson Bookworm Challenge! What is the Bookworm Challenge, you ask?

The Jackson library received a grant to build a reading program that challenges students to READ. Each grade level has been assigned a specific number of books to read. These books are to be free choice, non-curriculum books that are read on their own free time! We want to build the love of reading in our kids….not just have them see reading as a “job” at school. Reading independently builds vocabulary, helps with writing, aids in knowledge and stretches the imagination! Every time a student reads a book independently, he or she is encouraged to come to the Jackson library to fill out a segment to be added to the grade level bookworm. Watch our bookworms grow as the students take on the challenge!!
