Haskin Pride
Dawn Greenacre, Principal
At Haskin, We Are Learning Today, Shaping Tomorrow!"
I would like to take an opportunity to thank everyone for all the support that you have given your children, the staff, and our school community during this school year. Without your support, we would have a difficult time doing our job.
I am having a hard time believing that this year is coming to an end! It is just around the corner! Where did the school year go?? The staff and students have been busy in their classrooms finishing up standardized assessments, working on lessons and projects, going on field trips, and getting ready for the many important activities in May. Please look over the “For the Fridge” calendar to see what fun May events will be happening at school. The month will fly by!
By now you should have received information on 2018-2019 online registration. If you have questions regarding the online registration process, please feel free to contact the school. If you know that your child will not be attending Haskin next year, please let the office know. This helps us with planning. As a reminder, you now have the option to pay registration fees online, however, payment is not required at this time.
Please take time over the summer to read with your children. It is so important to continue working on skills. Join the summer reading program at the library! Helping your children maintain and increase their reading skills will help them in the upcoming school year. Just 15 minutes per day can make a difference!
Once again, thank you to everyone for making this a great year at Haskin. Have an excellent summer and I look forward to seeing you next year!!

Principal

END OF THE YEAR INFORMATION
MEDICATION:
Medication must be picked up by a parent or guardian, other than emergency type medication, as students will NOT be allowed to take it home. The last day of school is May 29th. Please be reminded that medication not picked up by the last day of school will be discarded. The required school medication forms for the 2018-2019 school year will be sent home with your child. Keep in mind medication, prescriptions or over the counter, cannot be given without a completed school medication permission form on file at the school. Also, health care plans (asthma, food allergy, etc) should also be updated for the 2018-2019 school year. If you have questions, you may contact Mrs. Meyer, school nurse. Most medical forms can be found on the district website as well. The main office will be open 2 weeks prior to the start of school. We encourage families to drop off any health medial forms prior to the first day of school.
DENTAL EXAM REMINDER FOR 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR:
All K, 2nd and 6th grade students are required to have a completed dental exam form on file with the school by May 15, 2018. Any student in 2nd and 6th grade not having a form on file will have their final report card held.
PHYSICAL/IMMUNIZATION/DENTAL/VISION REQUIREMENTS FOR 2018-2019:
All students entering Kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades are required to provide proof of a physical exam and up-to-date immunizations by the first day of school, August 17, 2018. Students will not be allowed to start school without a completed physical exam and up-to-date immunizations. Appointment cards will not be accepted.
All students enrolled in kindergarten, second and sixth grade are required to provide proof of a dental exam to the school by May 15 of the current school year. Students entering kindergarten are required to provide proof of a vision exam by October 15, 2018.
It’s not too early to schedule your child’s physical, dental or vision exam to beat the summer rush. Health forms have been sent to all current fifth and eighth grade students. Anyone needing a copy of the physical, dental or vision form can find them on the district website. Dental forms will be mailed home to all current first graders.
If you have already completed these requirements you can turn them into your student’s school. It will help the school nurses prepare for the 2018-2019 school year. The main office will be open 2 weeks prior to the start of school. We encourage families to drop off any health medial forms prior to the first day of school.

Reading News
Read Every Day at Haskin and at Home!
Haskin students know how much fun it is to READ EVERY DAY! Students in kindergarten through third grades select fun, interesting, informative, good-fit books and read them every single day. They read to themselves. They read to each other. They read to their teachers, and they read to stuffed animals! They read at their desks. They read on the floor. They read under tables, and much, much more! They can even be spotted reading while walking outside! Please read with your child every day at home as well. You can build reading skills and have fun at the same time.
The kindergarteners have been busy learning about story elements. This month we have read “Jack and the Beanstalk” paired with “Jenny and the Cornstalk”. We compared and contrasted the stories and their characters. We are also growing our own beanstalks! Pictured are Jack Frieders and Mia Thurmond with their “giant” projects and their writing of which story they preferred and why. Also pictured below are AJ Awis and Mykena Hansen with their “planted” bean seeds.
PARCC Testing
Haskin third graders are taking the annual state tests named PARCC. The computer based assessments focus on English/Language Arts and math.Enjoying a Book
Haskin third graders took a moment while waiting to enjoy their newly checked out library books.
Power Point State Books
Third graders have been learning about the United States. After selecting a state, the students used books and the internet to learn more about it. Once done, students put their information into a Power Point and presented it to the class.
Learning Lessons
Haskin third graders visited the Sandwich Opera House to see “The Fabulous Fable Factory” performed by American Eagle Productions. The students learned about the Aesop’s fables and the morals or lessons each story teaches.
Let the Growing Begin
Haskin third graders were once again selected to participate in the annual Bonnie Farm Cabbage Program. Each student received a cabbage plant to take home to put in a garden. After the 8-10 week growing season, the oversized cabbage should be ready for harvesting. Bonnie Farm hopes that students become enthusiastic about gardening.
Outdoor Education Day
Third graders visited Hoover Outdoor Education Center. They worked on teambuilding activities and learned about pioneer life including doing chores such as rope making, candle making, and chopping wood.
