Getting Ready for the End of the Year - Very Important Information!!!

Our senior class will graduate in just seven weeks!

There's a lot that must be done at the end of the school year, so please review the information below and begin making plans.

Final Exams

Final exams begin on Wednesday, May 14th and end on Wednesday, May 21st. Students' exam schedules will vary and students are allowed to check-out of the residence halls after they have finished all of their exams. Please carefully review the information below about Senior Recognition and Graduation before making plans!

Spring Fling

Our annual Spring Fling will be held on Thursday, May 22nd. Spring Fling is one of several opportunities for students to celebrate the end of the year with their friends. The Student Activity Board organizes the outdoor event, which includes water slides, cotton candy, snow cones, and music. The event concludes with a crawfish boil, sponsored by ABL food service.

Senior Recognition, Graduation Party and Graduation

Senior Recognition will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 7:30 p.m. in NSU's A.A. Frederick's Auditorium.

Following Senior Recognition, which generally lasts about two hours, the LSMSA Parents' Council will host a graduation party in the LSMSA gym for all LSMSA students and families. This event typically includes food, music, inflatable games, and exciting door prizes for our seniors.

Graduation will take place on Saturday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. in NSU's Prather Coliseum.

All current students are required to attend Senior Recognition and Graduation and students are required to spend Friday night (5/23) in the residence hall. Any exceptions to the above requirements must be approved by Dr. Widhalm ( No guests are allowed to stay in the residence halls on the night of May 23rd.

Moving Out of the Residence Hall

To make the move out process less difficult, students should consider taking some items home at Spring Break or anytime they go home over the next several weeks.

Option 1: Check-out prior to May 24th

Students may check-out and move out following their last final exam or on May 22nd or 23rd. If they choose to do so, they are still expected to return to campus and spend the night in the residence hall on Friday, May 23rd. Students who choose this option should bring just what they need (sleeping bag and pillow, clothing for Saturday, and toiletries) when they return for Friday night.

Option 2: Check-out on Saturday, May 24th

The residence halls will be open beginning at 7:00 a.m. on the 24th. Students will be required to attend a rehearsal for graduation in the morning and the ceremony in the afternoon, but may spend the remainder of the day moving out and completing check-out.

SLAs will be available for student check-out from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. EXCEPT for approximately 9:00 -10:00 a.m. (rehearsal) and 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. (graduation ceremony), when they must be at Prather Coliseum. The building remains open during the rehearsal and graduation ceremony for parents of sophomores or juniors who want to continue working in their students' rooms. Check-out cannot take place, however, except when the SLAs are available to complete that process.

The residence halls close at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24th and all students must have removed all personal belongings and completed the check-out process by that time.

Brief Overview of the Check-Out and Move-Out Process

Before checking-out, students must:

  • Return all textbooks and pay any lost book charges
  • Return all library books and pay any fines or lost book charges
  • Return mailbox key and room key and pay any lost key charges
  • Check out any prescription medications (if applicable)
  • Move all personal belongings out of residence hall room
  • Clean residence hall room and suite bathrooms (Caddo)

We'll get them started on the process of returning books during final exams week, but parents will have to make arrangements if the students have incurred fines for late or lost books or lost keys. Some prescription medications may not be checked-out to students and will have to be picked up by a parent or another adult.

Students may not leave any items in the residence hall over the summer. Students who are attending summer school may leave large items such as refrigerators in a storage room in Prudhomme until summer school, but those items must be removed from the building at the end of summer school.

Required Forms for 2014-2015 School Year

Before they left for the extended weekend, current sophomores and juniors received their Returning Eagle Guidebook, which includes:

  • Medical forms for upcoming school year (New forms must be submitted for the 2014-2015 school year. Your student will need to see his/her doctor.)
  • Information about summer school
  • Information about August Check-In
  • The 2014-2015 LSMSA Calendar

Most forms are due to the school by May 30th.

Please keep your guidebook somewhere safe! Only one copy per student will be provided. The information is also available on our website and can be printed from there if necessary.

The guidebook is available online here. The full version of the Returning Eagle Guidebook is at the bottom of the page.

If you have any questions, contact Jackie Jacoby, who will answer your questions or put you in touch with someone who can!
