Kindergarten
Mrs. Krahn & Ms. Miszewski
Our Kindergarten learners are off to a great start! We are really starting to settle in to our new routines and procedures. Students are keeping their masks on, using LOTS of hand sanitizer, and staying in their own learning spot. They are also learning how to be kind, safe, respectful and responsible at Rose Glen. We are so proud of how quickly they have adjusted.
Language Workshop
We start each day with Language Workshop. Language Workshop is a time where we read and analyze different types of texts related to the same theme. We have began studying the word "community". We have been learning about what a community is, what makes a strong community, and how we can make our own communities better. The two stories we have read so far are Be a Friend and Strictly No Elephants. These two stories showed us that even though we may be different from each other, we can still be kind to one another. Communities are more successful when people work together.
Reading Workshop
This week in Reading Workshop we have been practicing "Read to Self" time. We have been discussing what Reading Workshop should look like, feel like, and sound like. We have also been practicing taking good care of our books, staying in one spot while we are reading, and keeping our eyes in our books. It is so awesome to see our little learners reading for five minutes straight!
Math Workshop
We have been blown away by what strong mathematicians we have! In Math Workshop, we have been practicing counting, writing numbers, and subitizing. We have also learned about our first math tool: The Five Frame. Five Frames help us see groups of objects quickly. The students have enjoyed using their Interactive Five Frame that can be found in their Google Classroom. They have also enjoyed learning with one another by playing math games (safely of course).
Science
During the first trimester we will be learning all about Earth & Human Impact. These last couple of weeks we have been studying community helpers. We have been talking about how these community helpers work to make the community safe, as well as provide goods and services. In the upcoming weeks we will be learning about how we can make the world a happy place - even though we are only 5 years old! Ask your son or daughter what items they can be recycling at home!
iPads
Our Kindergarteners are super excited on days they get to learn new apps! They have done a great job following along and staying patient when technology gets a little crazy. We have introduced the apps: DreamBox, Epic, Letter Tracing, Let's Find Out, and Google Classroom. Thank you for ensuring your child's iPad is fully charged at home each night!
Recess & Playtime Fun!
Playtime looks a bit different these year. Instead of changing where students play everyday, they play with the same toys all week long with the same group of kids. That way, the toys can be properly sanitized between uses.
Recess is another fun part of the day! We love when we get to take our masks off and enjoy fresh air! Next week we are hoping to do some learning outside - it has been quite rainy these days!
