Principal's Message
Undoubtedly, this weekend brings back some pretty powerful memories. This Sunday, May 31st, marks the first anniversary of the mass shooting in Building 2 at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. I'm sure you remember vividly where you were and what you were doing one year ago when you heard the horrific news about the tragedy. Many of us were actually at CFES unaware of the magnitude of this event.
As we gear up for the last two weeks of school, take some time this weekend to hold your family and friends close. Think about, remember, and honor the victims. Try to find some comfort in some shared grief.
-Robyn

I make a difference...
She is always up for a challenge. She never stops looking for new ways to keep her kids engaged and excited about her lessons, even if that means learning a completely new tool. She never hesitates to try something new and always rolls right along when, inevitably, some new technology doesn't go exactly right. Whether virtually or in the classroom she is always trying to better herself so that her students get the best education they can, and for that they are super lucky! Sra. Dorbin, tu haces la diferencia!
News and Notes....
- As you have likely heard by now, Virginia’s governor has mandated face coverings be worn inside all public buildings. Therefore, as of tomorrow, Friday, May 29, visitors to all VBCPS schools or administrative buildings must wear face coverings while conducting business. A face covering includes anything that covers your nose and mouth, such as a mask, scarf or bandanna. If you are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition, please contact the school before your visit so that accommodations can be made for your safety.
VBCPS employees will also be wearing face coverings as they enter and exit buildings and when in common areas where social distancing can’t be maintained. Those employees who have regular contact with the public---such as security assistants, food service staff and receptionists--- will be wearing a face covering while performing their job functions.
Staffing Updates...
*Mr. Davis will be leaving us to join the Green Run Elementary Staff as their new 3rd grade teacher.
*Mrs. Young has decided after many years of service to retire at the end of this school year. She wanted to thank the students, parents, and staff for the pleasure she has had in working with everyone throughout her time here at the farm.
*Mrs. Glenna Reasland will be rejoining us as a permanent staff member joining our Kinder team!
Student Placement Cards
As we shift to adjusting our normal EOY procedures – we needed to make some changes. This year, we will be completing student placement cards electronically. Below there is a link that will take you to a document of 30 student cards and it will ask you to make a copy. Please make a copy and title the new document your last name. As always, please fill out the entire top part of the card and only the work habits and behavior (not to include virtual). You do not have to fill out reading, math, writing as we will be doing pre-assessments in the fall. Once you are done, please place them in your respective folder within the shared folder below.

Virtual Remembrance Ceremony
As a reminder, this weekend marks the first anniversary of the mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. The VB Strong Center has developed a number of events to honor the memory of the victims. This Sunday, May 31, at 4:06 p.m., there will be a virtual remembrance ceremony on loveforvb.com. You’re also invited to leave your white or blue-colored porch light on that evening.
Please see message from Dr. Spence with more information about how VB will remember this sad event.
Phishing Emails
The Department of Technology is deploying a new Outlook add-in, PhishAlarm. This add-in provides a quick and easy button to report potential phishing or spam emails. This button is only available in the Outlook application on Windows devices.
To report messages in O365 web version:
- Junk messages, forward the email to junk@office365.microsoft.com
- Phishing scam messages, forward the email to phish@office365.microsoft.com
When a suspicious email is received in Outlook. Click on the PhishAlarm Report Message button on the top of the Outlook ribbon, then click “Report Message” choice from the drop down menu. Last, click Yes to confirm.
The needed information is then automatically sent to Microsoft. Please delete the email in question once it has been reported. You will receive an automated email indicating the email was reported successfully. If you continue to have any issues with your computer, please enter a new Service Desk ticket with the Customer Support Center at 263-1111.
Morning Meeting Motivation
Students are invited to watch this week’s lesson reviewing all of our traits and how they have demonstrated each throughout the school year. We hope students will then test their memory with an optional Kahoot game activity.
