First Grade O.C. Taylor

September 8-11

A Highlight from Week 2

Students learned the importance of finding a Good Fit Book. We learned that just like shoe sizes are different for everyone, so are books. We want the book that is just right for us!

OCT is officially 1:1

OCT excitement hit a high as every child was delivered an iPad of their own to use! We are thrilled to have the opportunity to integrate technology to align with the mission and strategic objectives of GCISD's Lead 2021 initiative. Each week in our newsletter, we will feature an educational app that we are highlighting.

First Grade's first featured app is PicCollage.

PicCollage is THE coolest collage-maker in town! Students use PicCollage to combine photos, Youtube videos, funky fonts, sassy stickers and cutouts to create the coolest collages to show off things they have learned. It is a great Formal Assessment Tool for us to check for mastery in a way the kids love.

Lunch Restrictions
Last week you received a calendar that contained the lunch menus for the entire school year. In the back of the calendar, is a page that you can detach and select any restriction(s) that you would like to place on your child’s ordering (snacks only on Fridays, no extras.) Please complete this page and return it, if you wish to place any restrictions on your child’s lunch account.

Volunteers

We need reading volunteers this year! In order to be a volunteer, you must have attended the Volunteer Orientation and completed the criminal background check. All volunteers are required to reapply each year.

What are we learning this week?

Math: I can tell what I observe or know from a graph, create my own questions and answers questions about a graph.

Reading: I can use pictures to retell what I read.

Writing: I can proofread to correct a target skill.

Science: I can can observe changes in the appearance of objects in the sky and describe characteristics of day and night.

Social Studies: I can identify the responsibilities of authority figures in the home, school and community.
