Principal Visit to the East Coast
During the second half of this week, I have been lucky enough to partake in a visit to the East Coast of the North Island with a group of Principals from Taranaki, Bay of Plenty, and the Waikato. We visited a range of school contexts, with the focus on upskilling our Tikanga Māori understanding (Protocols, Practices, and Customs). The trip saw us spend time in Ruatoria, Tolaga Bay, and Gisborne, where we were treated to amazing hospitality that allowed us to meet some special people. A number of connections have been made that we look forward to reciprocating in the future.

Congratulations Miss Romeyn
We wish to formally announce that Sharnae and her partner Rhys are expecting their first child. This is incredibly exciting news for them both, and on behalf of the school, we wish them the best of luck. Sharnae will be working up to approximately Week 6, Term 2. We are currently advertising her position and early next term we will be making an appointment.
2050: A Moment in Time
A breeze whips through my coat, shaking my bones. The street stretches out like an unraveling roll of fabric, with tall structures looming, a canyon of infrastructure. A couple of figures huddle over a small sapling, one holding a trowel. An overarching panic, a deep depression infects the continually thinning populace. I glance towards the sky enthroned by buildings, to the grey, dreary clouds. The sun slowly meandered over the nimbus, sticking out like a sore thumb. I take a deep breath. Hope. I walk on with a deep stirring feeling in my chest.

Hockey Fun Day writing
Grubby shoes squeaking as I turn to stop the ball. I hack my way through. "I'm open" I screeched desperately. In a blink of an eye, the ball was hurtling at high speed towards me. I bend down. My heart was pounding. My stomach was in knots. My hockey stick collided with the ball, as I prayed that I would get my first goal.
The goalie was focused, I started to tremble, the speed of the ball frightened him as he hoisted himself away from the goal in fear. I finally did it. Yay!

Hearing and Vision Screening
Vision hearing Technicians from Community and Southern Rural Health will be visiting our school on Thursday 8th April 2021.
They will carry out routine tests on new entrants who have not completed their B4 school checks; and also to re-test some students who were absent at the last visit or need follow-up.
The objective of these tests is to identify a previously undetected vision and hearing defects. All of these checks are non-invasive, safe, and should cause no discomfort.
If any parent does not want their child to be checked, or their child is currently under specialist care for an ear or vision defect, they should leave a message for the Technician at the school office.
