News from Ms. Hess
In literacy this week we learned that fictional stories follow a plot diagram and read stories that pushed our thinking about unresolved endings including Fly Away Home and Charlie Anderson.
In math, we learned about the three ways to write a number and explored the properties of addition and multiplication. We also made good progress toward finishing our iReady math assessment.
Next week, we will investigate a little-known genre called narrative nonfiction - stories about real people told in a narrative picture book format. It is a wonderful way to introduce them to interesting and important people in history. We will also take our iReady reading assessment.
Our band instructor, Mr. Flaherty, has sent home an informational letter attached to this email regarding band and the instrument display night. An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 7pm in Oxford regarding renting instruments. Find out more in the letters from Mr. Flaherty.
Students who already have instruments may begin bringing them starting next week on Tuesday and Friday. Whole group band is scheduled on Tuesday and Friday from 2:20 - 3:00, but will not start until most kids who plan to be in band have instruments - starting toward the end of September. Students with instruments will go for small group lessons until that time.
Binder of Awesome!!! Look forward to seeing this again on Friday, September 28.
Learning Goals This Week:
Math: I can show what I know about math on the iReady assessment. I can explain place value, write numbers 3 ways, and subtract with accuracy.
Writing: I can generate ideas for poetry, stretch my favorite ideas, and write a rough draft of a poem.
Science: I can make, record, and communicate my observations.
