St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 8 | 16 June 2023

Dear Parents,
It has been a fantastic Friday here at Bernie’s with an awesome Year 1 Assembly that showcased the learning happening in classrooms! Congratulations to Mrs Bennett and all our students for retelling their favourite fairy tales and showing off how the Talk for Writing Program works in the classroom. I can’t wait to see all their independent writing soon.
Last Saturday and Sunday, our Year 4 students, along with students from other year groups, took part in the sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time – their First Holy Communion. It was wonderful to have our school staff, parish members and parent community coming together to celebrate together.
On Saturday the 24th of June at 6pm our Year 5 families will be helping to organise our Term 2 Community Mass over in the parish. I would like to extend this welcome to all our families to come and be part of the night. It would be great to fill up our church, get together as a community to celebrate a great term and have a sausage sizzle at the end. Please let us know if you are coming using the link below – we would LOVE to see you there!
Our Year 5 and 6 Soccer and Volleyball Teams welcomed Star of the Sea to our school this afternoon to compete in a scratch match before their lightning carnival in Week 9. We all got drenched in a short down pour but this did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the players! I would like to thank all our parent volunteer coaches for their support in getting our teams ready and giving so much of their time.
I have had a lot of fun getting into classes this week, spending time in Year 6 discussing the rest of the Year, covering in Pre-Primary and playing with the construction manipulatives and helping to moderate some of the 3-6 Brightpath Writing Samples. Our students are always engaged in what they are doing and work so well together – it is a lot of fun to be in there with them!
I know I say this every term, however, if you could all have a discussion with your students about these last few weeks it would be really appreciated. Our students have been treating each other kindly and respectfully all term and we want to keep this going right to the end, even as they become tired and ready for their holidays.
I hope you all have a great weekend
Geordie

International Men's Health Week: Something for Dad!
“What we do, or don’t do as dads, has an enormous impact on the happiness and health of the children we love. “
It’s International Men’s Health week – where we raise awareness about the importance of men looking after their general health, mental health and overall wellbeing. The value of our dads, grand-parents and significant male figures within the lives of our children here at Bernies, cannot be underestimated.
The Fathering Project is a not for profit organisation operating across Australia. Their aim is to educate, support and empower fathers and father figures for the benefit of children. They have Dad’s Groups operating around Australia to encourage our Dad’s to connect and support each other in their Fatherhood Journey.
Please see the below link for a Podcast exploring masculinity, the importance of men making connections with other men and the impact of this on the type of dad they are for their kids and their overall health and wellbeing.

Community Mass - all welcome
On Saturday 24th June at 6pm, our Year 5 students will be hosting a community mass in our parish. Everyone is invited to attend. Mass will be followed by a sausage sizzle afterwards in the parish hall provided by our school P&F and the parish men’s group. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school and parish to come together to celebrate as a community. We look forward to seeing you and your family there. For catering purposes, please indicate attendance on the Form link
