MIDWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
THE GALLOPING GAZETTE
January 8, 2016
Welcome back! It seems amazing that we have finished our first week of school for 2016!! I will have to say that it is great seeing our children again and getting back into a routine. Their smiles and enthusiasm make my heart happy!!!
We were thrilled to review our report for 2014-2015! When you compare our performance with schools like ours, we are doing very well. This link will take you to the SC State Department of Education's website where you are able to access any district's and any school's report card.
http://ed.sc.gov/data/report-cards/state-report-cards/2015/
I will download our report card and email it separately for your ease and review. Please know that we celebrated our students' success with them prior to the break. They enjoyed an extra recess with their whole grade level so they had play time with friends they don't often see at recess this year. They do so enjoy this!!! Congratulations, Midway!
I do want to thank those of you who shared their appreciation for the safety tips shared back in December. Now I have three safety reminders:
1. Please do not use the cell phone while in car rider line. We all need to stay focused and alert to keep everyone safe.
2. All Lexington School District 1 campuses are smoke free. This includes no smoking outside on our campus as well as when your car is on our campus.
3. Please remain in car rider lines and do not pull out to hurry around traffic so that you are driving head on or against traffic in the other lane.
Thank you for your continued support as we make 2016 the best year ever!!!

"Reading with the Gamecocks" Information!
Dear Parents,
Before break, your child completed a "Read with the Gamecocks" reading log and turned it in to me on time. Our class was among the top third grade class in the state for the number of pages read! Therefore, your child will be bringing home a voucher for free admission for ONE ADULT and the student to the Women's Basketball game on SUNDAY at 12:00 noon. After the game, our class will go on the court to get a picture made with COCKY! I hope you will be able to join us. Aarushi and Anushka Shrivatava have a special award to be given at halftime for being two of the highest overall readers in the state. We are so proud! Please let me know if you plan to attend so that I can look our for you and your child. Directions are printed on the back of the voucher. Please see the information below for the coordinator:

- No devices an hour before bed
- Quiet Your Devices
- Put your device on airplane mode
- Put it on vibrate

Midway's Red Cross Blood Drive January 27th 1-6 pm!
Please Schedule your appointment now!
Winter weather and seasonal illnesses can greatly affect blood donations through the American Red Cross, but hospital patients still need transfusions. Midway is hosting our annual Red Cross Blood Drive this month.
Healthy, eligible donors are urged to make an appointment to give on January 27th from 1-6:00 pm by visiting redcrossblood.org using our school sponsor code: Midwayelem to schedule or by calling Alicia Weed at 821-0300 or email aweed@lexington1.net. All students who recruit a donor will receive a gift from Red Cross. Thank you so much for your life saving donation!
On the day of the blood drive (must complete on the day of drive) please use RapidPass, a new tool that allows blood donors to help save lives in less time. RapidPass allows donors to complete their pre-reading and donation questions online from the comfort and privacy of their home or office; reducing the time they spend at the blood drive by up to 15 minutes.
. It's simple and will save you time!
- Visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass
