Superintendent's Update
November 20, 2020
CCPS Community,
Last weekend, we made the decision to close CCPS schools and offices effective immediately based on the dramatic increase of Cecil County's metrics in addition to the increasing challenge of being able to adequately staff school buildings due to a growing number of adults out on quarantine. Based on guidance from the Cecil County Health Department, we will not proceed with our re-opening of schools until Cecil County sees a 5% positivity rate (percent of tests that are positive) AND less than 15 positive cases per 100,000 population. You can monitor Cecil County's health metrics from the Maryland dashboard and select Cecil County for the various points of data.
Next week, we will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Monday and Tuesday will be the only days of virtual instruction as the school system will be officially closed for students and employees Wednesday through Friday. 2020 has certainly been a very challenging year, but I am personally thankful for this school system and the individuals who make up the whole CCPS family. I wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Food & Nutrition Updates
A meal distribution will be held on Wednesday, December 2, at all schools from 10:00 AM - 12 PM. The "meals on the go" buses will also go out to their neighborhood stops on these dates as well. If you have any questions please refer to the meals tab on the virtual playbook at CCPS.org or call the Food & Nutrition Department at (410) 996-6257.
Athletics Update
As part of the closure of all CCPS schools and offices that began November 16th, CCPS athletics will be suspended until further notice. Athletic programs will be addressed as part of the re-opening plan and will be dependent upon Cecil County’s COVID-19 metrics under the advisement of the Cecil County Health Department.
