News and Updates from FSMA
Have you checked the front page of our website lately? While the format hasn't changed (yet - we are beginning this process), there are two important pieces of information you can view.
Public Comment Link - if you would like to make a public comment to go on record regarding our request to expand, you can type it right on our website.
SignUp Genius - Happy Hearts and Winter Olympics require "many hands." There are opportunities to volunteer or send in items. If we each contribute a little, each event will be much easier to manage.
In 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms, students are working on a unit called, "Bridges." In this engineering and design unit, children are taught to test and build bridges to solve problems. They have to consider many things and troubleshoot their ideas. While he teachers give lessons on things like function and , they have to do a lot of the design on their own. It is always a favorite unit and we definitely have some future engineers in our midst!
At the "branches" meeting this week, Jill demonstrated a grammar lesson. She taught us the meaning of the different shapes that are used to symbolize the parts of speech. For example, verbs are red spheres - which not only move (roll) but also remind us of the sun and energy (which is needed for action). Helping children make these connections helps them remember and positively impacts their writing.
This week we had our first snow days and dealt with some interesting issues as we came back to huge piles of snow on the streets surrounding our school. FSMA families were so patient and understanding as we rearranged some schedules and locations for pickup and drop-off. We are so appreciate of your understanding and the positive responses we received in regard to creating new procedures to keep everyone safe.
Lots going on next week....
Thursday - Winter Olympics (wait until you see all the fun Kerry has planned!)
Friday - "Watch Me Work" Day (teachers will communicate specific times to visit the classroom)
Friday night - Happy Hearts Celebration (each time is carefully designed to be fun for each age group... it is not all about "dancing," but games and activities too. We hope all FSMA students will invite someone special and come out to the PARTY! (And, if your child doesn't invite you, sign up to volunteer so you can still be a part of the fun!)
