PBL in Mrs. Egelhoff and Mrs. Evan's Class- The Kindness Celebration

An exceptional PBL unit!

The students in Mrs. Egelhoff's class hosted a Kindness Celebration on 12/18/2014. The most impressive part of the celebration was that it was totally planned by the students. The students worked in groups and divided up the roles needed to put on the presentation. The presentation was very inspiring. The students were filled with kindness and you could feel it throughout the celebration.

According to the BIE, "Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, problem, or challenge"

The BIE stresses that students should have a voice and choice within the unit. This is not easy to do, but Mrs. Egelhoff models this perfectly. She allows students to form committees that they feel are relevant and she then holds each student accountable for accomplishing their assigned task. The students are truly directing their own learning yet they are truly learning important life skills. While they are learning they are inspiring others to kind.
