Principal's Newsletter

From the Desk of Ms. Clark

December 7, 2017

Dear Parents,

“Take time to be aware that in the very midst of our busy preparations for the celebration of Christ’s birth in ancient Bethlehem, Christ is reborn in the “Bethlehems” of our homes and daily lives. Take time, slow down, be still, and be awake to the Divine Mystery that looks so common and so ordinary yet is wondrously present.”

As we entered the second trimester of the school year this week, our hallways are filled with the Christmas spirit as we prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. May this holy season help us recognize and reflect on our own spiritual journey by finding joy in the season and less stress in Christmas. May we walk in love during these remaining weeks of Advent as we wait and prepare for His coming.

God's blessings,

Ms. Clark

Carol Night

Please join our school community as we celebrate this holy season through the annual celebration of Carol Night on Tuesday, 12/12 at 7pm in the gym. Enjoy a beautiful combination of traditional Christmas songs and narration of the story of the birth of Jesus. Students from all grade levels will participate in this special presentation.

Christmas Band Concert

Our award-winning band will perform their Christmas concert on Wednesday, 12/13 at 7pm in the gym. Please join us for the beautiful sounds of Christmas.

Report Cards

As you are aware, the first trimester report cards are due to be distributed on Monday. This is a reminder to all families that the school’s policy is to withhold report cards to families who are delinquent in their tuition. All tuition and late fees should be current through November in order to receive report cards.

If you need to contact SMART to make tuition payment arrangements, please call their toll-free number 1-888-868-8828. Our SMART school code is 11670. You can make a tuition payment directly to the school by issuing a check payable to SKD School.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have questions, please contact Fred Perazzelli, Business Manager 215-357-1221 AJPERAZZELLI@comcast.net

School Emergency Closing Information

Please see the School Emergency Closing Information posted on our website under Parent Resources regarding specific information should our school close due to inclement weather.

Morning Arrival

Please enter the morning drop-off car line with caution. The morning drop off is an express line; parents may not stop and get out of their cars. Students must exit from the PASSENGER SIDE only once stopped at the curb. Children should not wait to exit the car until you reach the church. Students MUST be ready to exit the car once pulling into the car line drop-off in order to eliminate back-up traffic. DO NOT DRIVE OUT OF THE CAR LINE. PLEASE WAIT FOR THE LINE TO MOVE SLOWLY TO EXIT. If you need to bring your child into the school building, you MUST park your car and enter through the main school entrance. You must report to the office.

Financial Aid

Applications for students who will be enrolled in K-12 during the 2018-2019 school year will be available for parents. Applications for Archdiocesan schools, parish schools, and diocesan high schools can be accessed at www.blocs.org or by going directly to https://online.factsmgt.com/aid

Please know that no parent who sincerely desires a Catholic education for their child at Saint Katharine Drexel School will be denied registration because of true financial hardships. Each parish will address this concern on a case by case basis for their parishioners. Any additional financial aid scholarship, in addition to the parishes’ subsidy, will be predetermined, and awarded by the parish, prior to the start of the academic year. Families who believe they are eligible and in need of this aid are asked to contact their local parish office and request a financial aid packet which will include the request for all pertinent financial information.

Happy Saint Nicholas Day from 1st Grade

Monsignor Marine visited our first grade to talk about St. Nicholas and the legend of the candy cane. Monsignor blessed candy canes for each class, and our students enjoyed their special treat.

Jesse Tree

Our school is using the Jesse Tree as a way to remind us of the true meaning of this Holy Season. Each day, students participate in our school community prayer by reciting a bible verse over the PA system and then decorating our school Christmas tree with their own colorful ornament.

WONDER

Our students in grades 3-8 took a trip to the Newtown Theatre to see the movie "Wonder." This amazing film helped us understand kindness, point of view, how to react to bullying, and so much more.
