Knox News!
October 2019
Welcome To October!
Hello Knox Families!
We are off to a great start this school year. This month our ASB student leaders attended the CADA conference in Del Mar with our ASB friends from Millennial Tech Middle. We also launched our new Positive School Culture and Climate brag tag program. All Knox students have a Knox Middle lanyard. Students can earn brag tags for academic accomplishments as well as for exhibiting the Bulldog Way. This month we celebrated our students for Respect. Our October theme is: Integrity.
Knox is the proud recipient of a QSIEN (Quality School In Every Neighborhood) award for our collaboration with parents. Each month we host a parent circle as well as a parent workshop. Our Knox families had their first circle this month, as well as the opportunity to attend a Middle School Matters workshop with our Gear Up partners at CEP.
Thank you to everyone that also came out for our Computers 2 Kids event last week, as well as Back to School Night.
We are very excited for the many new partnerships we have established for this school year. In order to support our students as leaders as well as to support social-emotional learning at school, our partners will be working with our students during the week on campus.
For this school year, we have established partnerships with:
FANCY-Tuesday
Boys to Men-Wednesday
Mending Matters-Monday
Paving Great Futures-Lunch
Star Pal-After School
US Navy-Lunch
Movement Be-Monday
You can learn more about these partnerships in the links below.
We have also begun our school-wide Advisory reading program Achieve 3000, in order to promote our school-wide literacy focus. We are excited for our students to begin to monitor their own reading growth on a daily basis. Please ask your student about this program and their current Lexile level.
We encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a night independently. Students will be checking out independent reading books during library visits with their English class.
All Knox students will have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter.
Thank you for your partnership!
Sincerely,
Principal Potter

Attendance Matters
The STAY curriculum focuses on truancy and attendance. The school-based instruction explores factors which contribute to truancy, and the resulting consequences of missing school. Topics range from goal-setting, coping skills, support system, self-evaluation, and both personal and environmental factors that contribute to truancy.
We will continue to provide incentives to students that clear all of their missed days, showing responsible attendance!
