FAFSA Completion Workshop
Please login to the Class of 2024 Google Classroom to register for our upcoming FAFSA Completion Workshop on Wednesday, January 31st from 3:30-6:00 pm in our Media Center. There is also a checklist and some Frequently Asked Questions in the Google Classroom for you to look over before you attend the workshop. Our representative from the Georgia Student Finance Commission will be here so come prepared!
Cake Pop Fundraiser
Cake pop bouquets can be ordered for Valentine's Day through Friday, February 9th. All WCHS orders will be delivered during 1st block on February 14th. Cake Pop Bouquets are $12 and will have assorted flavors. Single pops are $3 each. Order from a HOSA member or advisor or during the lunches.
Prom Ticket Information:
Prom tickets will be on sale through RevTrak starting February 1st. Tickets are $50 each and include a t-shirt until March 22nd. Tickets purchased after this date will be $55 and will not include a t-shirt. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Collier in room 209 or Dr. McDaniel.
Scholarship Info:
- The International Virtual Learning Academy is offering a $1,000 scholarship and the application deadline is April 30th.
- The 2024 student-view Scholarship Program is offering over $14,000 worth of scholarships and only requires a survey to be completed. The deadline is April 23th.
- The Okefenoke REMC $2000 Scholarship information is available in the Counselor’s Office and on the School Website. The deadline to apply is January 29th.
- The Marshland Credit Union $2,500 Scholarship Application is now available in the Counselor's Office. The deadline to apply is March 1st.
Junior Scholarship Info:
- The Horatio Alger Scholarship is now available and is only open to Juniors. This association awards 4 students with a $25,000 National Scholarship and 50 students with a $10,000 scholarship from the state of Georgia. More information is available in the Counselor’s office or on the school website.
Satilla Washington Youth Tour
Satilla REMC will sponsor an all-expense paid trip for 2 students to Washington, D.C for the Satilla Youth Tour, scheduled June 14-21st, 2024.
During the trip, students will learn about electric cooperatives, explore D.C., and see our government in action.
10th and 11th grade students, if you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please stop by the Counseling Department for an application.
Applications are due back to the Counseling Dept. Feb 14th at 3:30 PM.
Class of 2024
Senior Breakfast will be on Tuesday, February 6th following the Varsity Boys' basketball game in the cafeteria. Breakfast will be served, and prizes will be given out throughout the night.
Swim Updates:
On Friday, January 19th, the WCHS Swim Team traveled to Ware County for the Ware Winter Invitational. The following are the results of this contest:
Boys: 3rd Place Overall
- Jet Townsend: 1st place 50 Freestyle, 2nd place 100 Backstroke
- Anthony Coronella: 2nd place 200 Freestyle, 2nd place 500 Freestyle
- George Breed: 2nd place 100 Breaststroke
- Rieaha Manning: 2nd place 100 Breaststroke
- Alyssa Johnson: 2nd place 200 Individual Medley
On Tuesday, January 23, the WCHS Swim Team traveled to Appling County for their last meet of the season. The highlights from that contest are as follows:
- Jet Townsend: 1st Place 50 Freestyle, 2nd Place 100 Freestyle
- Anothony Coronella: 1st Place 200 Freestyle, 2nd Place 500 Freestyle
- George Breed: 5th Place 100 Breaststroke
- Rieaha Manning: 5th Place 100 Breaststroke
- Girls Relay Team (Ella Geiger, Lily Lewis, Alyssa Johnson, Rieaha Manning): 6th Place 200 Freestyle Relay
- Girls Relay Team (Sara Vera Calle, Rieaha Manning, Alyssa Johnson, Ella Geiger): 6th Place 200 Medley Relay

Wrestling Updates:
Wayne County wrapped up its regular-season finale with a loss against Effingham County 27-44 and Brunswick 62-10 despite many injuries in the line-up.
Leading the Jackets on the night was Grover Mixell (120) who bumped up a weight class to 126 to secure the pinfall win against Effingham County and a tight defeat against Brunswick's 126 with a final score 6-8.
The Varsity Girls compete Friday at Toombs County HS in the Sweet Onion Invitational. Wrestling begins at 5pm. The Varsity boys do not compete this weekend.
National Art Honors Society Updates:
The National Art Honors Society traveled to the state competition in Gainesville, Georgia over the weekend and brought home 2 state awards! Out of 250 students across the state competing Lori Bell placed 3rd in Artist Trading Cards and Bryanna McAvoy placed 1st in Buttons for Social Comment! This is Wayne County's second year competing at State and the 1st year bringing home state winners! Congrats to everyone that competed over the weekend!
