Superintendent's Update
Greetings Cadet Families!
With the bright, sunny, warm weather this week, our Connally Childcare Center, Connally Early Childhood Center, and Connally Primary School students will be able to enjoy their much-anticipated playground improvements! The childcare center used the Texas Workforce Commission grant funds to install a shade cover over the playground and purchase new playground equipment. Since the childcare center is on the early childhood campus, the PreK and Kindergarten students can use the equipment. The district also benefited from West ISD receiving a new elementary campus, as we bought some of their used playground equipment in an auction last spring and installed it at the primary campus. The district was able to save money and provide the additional playground equipment due to the Connally ISD maintenance staff assembling and installing all of the shade cover and all playground equipment.
Our maintenance staff has been busy in recent weeks. In addition to the playground renovations, they replaced the press box at the baseball field. The previous press box was unsafe as the wood floors showed signs of rot and deterioration over the 40+ years it has been in use. The maintenance crew removed the old wood structure and built the new structure with a metal frame and siding. The new structure looks excellent and gives those working the concession stand below peace of mind, knowing that someone will not drop through their ceiling anytime soon!
The Lady Cadet basketball team experienced a heartbreaking loss on Friday night in the UIL Region III Girls Basketball Semifinals. It was once again a nail-biter until the end; they lost by only three points. As disappointing as the loss was for these young ladies, they played hard and never gave up. They truly gave it their all up to the game's final buzzer. They should hold their heads high, as only 16 AAAA teams have advanced to this level. They also have a junior, Tynia Minnit, who scored her 1,000th point in her high school career in last week's game against Salado. You have made us proud!
The Cadet basketball team fell short against the Houston Jack Yates Lions on Friday night in the area round of basketball playoffs. However, they fought hard throughout the game. Again, this is another team that should be very proud of playing beyond the regular district schedule.
This Saturday, March 2nd, the high school One Act Play will compete in the district competition at China Spring. The competition is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. The order of the schools competing will be as follows:
10:00- Robinson with The Yellow Boat
10:50- China Spring with Pearl
11:40- La Vega with A Midsummer Night’s Dream
12:50- Connally with Epic Proportions
1:40- Salado with Trial of the Chicago Seven
2:30- Gatesville with The Glass Menagerie
The show start times are estimates, as they will begin a show once the previous is over. Therefore, plan to get there about 30 minutes early. Spectators are only allowed to enter the auditorium in between shows, you will not be allowed to enter the venue once a performance has started.
