COYLE TECH - TRUST IN SCHOOLS SURVEY (STUDENTS AND STAFF ONLY)

At Coyle Technology Center for Math and Science, our mission is to empower our diverse student population to have a voice in what and how they learn through authentic and interdisciplinary learning experiences within a team. By engaging students in an inquiry-based approach to STEM that is relevant and reflective of the needs of their community and global society, our students become innovative thinkers, solvers of complex problems, teamers, and self-advocates.

We believe that to create those authentic, interdisciplinary learning experiences for our students to achieve academic, social, and behavioral success, the members of our school community must learn and live out a culture of trust, confidence, positivity and collegiality. We use the Coyle Tech School Culture Dashboard to assess and measure data points of interest to help us identify areas of success and growth to ensure our school community thrives under the new school design.

Students and Staff, please click the "Coyle Tech - Trust in Schools" survey button below to let us know how we are doing with meeting your needs in our school community. You must be logged into your GISD credentials to access the survey. Please compete the survey by the deadline of Wednesday, December 14, 2022. In addition we will utilize this data as we engage in positive culture-building dialogue (Conversations and Coffee with the Principal, Student Advisory Committee, and Grade-level Meetings) during the 2nd semester.

Our destination is an A! We are actively pursuing an A-rating on our 2022-23 School Report Card and Accountability Report! I ask that our school community actively engage and partner with us in this endeavor!

We have almost completed our first semester of the 2022-23 school year! Man, it has flown by very fast! We still have 7 more days until the winter break, so don’t let your student(s) take the pedal off of the gas! We have STAAR Interim testing going on campus and many will have semester exams next week as well. Teaching and learning will be happening at Coyle until we dismiss students next Friday, December 17, 2022 at 2:05 pm.

Starting next January, we will begin efforts to increase parent and family engagement with the school by hosting “Conversations and Coffee with the Principal”. There will be 2 sessions each month, starting Friday, January 6, 2023 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. We have a desire to provide all parents and families access to our school operations, as well as create partnerships with families to discuss ways to improve the overall operations of our school community.

Families, community members, and staff are encouraged to attend these critical conversations. Click the button below to let us know what session(s) you will attend.

TELPAS RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

TELPAS TESTING WINDOW OPENS FEBRUARY 20 2023

Who takes the TELPAS Assessment?

Students in grades K-12 that have been identified as an EL (English Learner) are required to take TELPAS. This includes ELs whose parents have declined bilingual or English as a Second Language (ESL) program services.

What does the results tell you about your student?

TELPAS uses four proficiency ratings—Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and Advanced High—to show the progress students make in learning English from year to year. For students to reach their full academic potential, it is important for them to make steady progress in learning English. Your child’s proficiency ratings in listening, speaking, reading, and writing will give you a good idea about the progress he or she is making. Students who do not make steady progress may require additional assistance at school.

2022-23 FALL STAAR INTERIM ASSESSMENTS (PLEASE READ!!!)

State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Interim Assessments are online assessments that align to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and that help educators monitor student progress and predict student performance on STAAR. Although the STAAR Interim Assessments are not tied to accountability, Coyle students are expected to perform at their highest level on these assessments since the data will be used to determined additional support including, Extended-day Tutoring before and afterschool, Focus Friday Night Tutoring, Saturday School, pull-outs from their elective courses, and potentially in-class tutoring that students may need to ensure they can be successful on their 2023 STAAR Exams.

PARENTS AND FAMILIES....

Please ensure that your student comes prepared each day for their STAAR Interim Assessments by doing the following:

  1. Get a good night of sleep and charge their Chromebook at night
  2. Bring their fully-charged Chromebook and Charger
  3. Eat a healthy breakfast
  4. Bring a water bottle with water only
  5. Follow the daily dress code policy
  6. Follow the daily technology policy

The campus will shut down as a secure testing environment as we do for regular STAAR testing. Students will be removed from the testing environment (possibly sent hme) for violating student expectations in a secure testing environment and/or impeding on another student's opportunity to take their assessments in an quiet ad appropriate testing environment. His/Her test may also be voided.

We will have incentives for student participation in the STAAR Interim Assessments. STAAR participation rate if part of our yearly accountability and school report card. The goal is 100% participation for each assessment!

DRESS CODE

Ensure that your student is following all district and campus expectations (student code of conduct, dress code, technology policy, positive behavior expectations). When students cooperate with district and campus expectations, admin, teachers, and staff have more time to focus on providing students with an exceptional education instead of spending valuable time correcting misbehaviors. Every minute students spend in their academic environment increases their opportunities for success! You can review campus and district expectations by clicking the links below:

SCHOOL ID'S and PAW CARDS!

Please make sure that our students understand the importance of wearing an identification badge, please emphasize the importance of wearing their ID badge, and model GISD requirements as well using the Student PAW card presentation.

We are still working on a plan to get school IDs to new students and those who were not here on picture day. We will send out that information as soon as possible.
