Week of April 11, 2016
For the next 3-4 weeks until STAAR Testing, we will be crunching down on specific topics that students seemed to struggle on during the benchmark test. These topics are: summarizing, main idea, Organizational Patterns and Themes. We will be doing a variety of activities to prep them for the upcoming assessment.
TIME MANAGEMENT!! As we all know, time management is a learned habit. Many, many students have struggled this year with time management. I would like to suggest a few things for the rest of the 2015-2016 school year and for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.
1. Purchase your child a planner - this way that may write down any homework or upcoming tests that they may have. Have your child make it a priority to have you look at it and initial it each night so that may hold themselves accountable for their work and grades.
2. Excuses - discuss with your student the importance of being honest. If they forgot to do their homework, as a teacher, I'd much rather them be honest with me then give me a round-about excuse on why their work was not completed. If they are honest, I'm much more willing to work with them to solve the problem.
3. Organization - Purchase your child either a pocket folder for each class with one pocket being labeled "keep" and the other labeled "return" or a three ring binder with dividers. This will help your child stay organized and increases success.
I hope these three items will help you for the remainder of this year and for the next. I know as a parent, I sometimes wonder what more I can do to help my child become more successful in the classroom!
