York Center Family Newsletter 1/21
While students were away on Friday, teachers were busy learning! Our Institute Day provided valuable time to learn about new tools and methods to enhance student learning. Teachers were able to select from a wide variety of learning opportunities. We learned about enhancing instruction with the use of technology, math and reading instructional strategies, meeting the needs of a wide range of learners, and many other relevant topics! We will further explore and share our new learning as a York Center team.
Report Cards
As report cards come home this week on Wednesday, we celebrate the growth that our children have made over the course of the school year. Day to day it may be hard to see the little changes, but over the course of the first half of the year, we have seen tremendous gains. Most notably, our teachers are impressed with how students are engaging in the deeper thinking that our new math curriculum materials are providing.
We know that a continued partnership between home and school will help all of our students grow in their learning. I read a great article comparing how students navigate education to a tricycle. The parents and teachers are the back wheels helping them move along, but the student is the front wheel driving their learning. Thank you for always encouraging your child to put forth their best effort in their learning!

Absences
If you do not call and they are not here, we will need to mark your child as having an unexcused absence.
The 5 Essentials Parent Survey is still OPEN!
We need your help and input. All parents are invited to provide us with valuable feedback. In order to have results sent to us, we need to have enough parents participate in the survey. The parent survey is to be completed by parents, guardians, or other caregivers with a child in grades prekindergarten through 12. The parent survey is available in English and Spanish and takes approximately 10 -20 minutes to complete. If parents have more than one (1) child that attends the same school, parents may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that parents participate in the survey for each school. Only one parent per household may participate in the survey.
