Roadrunner Nation News
April 20, 2021
From the Principal and Assistant Principal
Parents and guardians, we so appreciate that students are coming to school wearing masks and bringing attestations daily. In addition, we realize that masks are not all that much fun to wear especially for students, which really makes us so thankful for students continuing to follow the safety guidelines at school. We thank you and the students for continuing to help us all stay healthy here at Goodman. If you need additional copies of the attestations, please let us know.

Attendance during Asynchronous Time
Below is a video outlining how students will take attendance when doing their asynchronous time. This is a new process started by the district. Students will need to do this on asynchronous days in order to not be marked absent. Parents/Guardians will get an automated attendance message if their students don't do the survey on these days. Please watch the video and let us know if you have any questions.

Tips for Remote Success
Help your student create and stick to a schedule for independent work times. Monday and Thursday afternoons and Tuesday and Friday Mornings.
Select a designated work spot for your student to work with supplies available.
Help your student keep track of upcoming assignments in a way that works best for your student. The majority of students will need adult help managing the workload on this type of schedule. You can check PowerSchool and Schoology for missing assignments weekly with your student. Your student could use any of the following to keep track of assignments:
Schoology Calendar
Paper Agenda (available at school or at stores like Target or Michaels)
Lists in a designated notebook
Corkboard with assignments written on index cards (see an example of this system here)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DNEWqWDSTaoNIfu0gvTqavqepsZei9RO/view?usp=sharing
Wednesdays can feel long to students. Encourage screen breaks and exercise.
Your student has teachers that are new to them. Help your student communicate questions and concerns with their teachers through email or Schoology.
Managing Allergies and Asthma at School
At this time of year, seasonal allergies and asthma can mimic other health concerns including symptoms of COVID-19. It is important to keep your student’s health records current if they have health concerns that can impact their day at school.
If your student has seasonal allergies or asthma, please contact the health room to complete a current Health Concern Update form to have on file in your student’s health record. Students may require medications and/or a health care plan to help with any symptoms while at school. Health room staff are ready and willing to help with your child’s health and safety needs.
Please continue to have your child wear a cloth face covering, wash their hands frequently and maintain physical distancing guidelines while at school. Together we can keep our students and staff safe.

As we head into spring it will soon be time to register for next school year. Stay tuned for more information about elective choices for next year.
This is also a good time to check on your student’s grades and talk to them about how they are doing. If you find that your student is struggling, their teachers and their counselors are here to help. Many students are having challenges with motivation, gaps in knowledge, and focus. Here at Goodman we have many support options available.

6th Grade
As we head into spring it will soon be time to register for next year. Stay tuned for more information about elective choices for next year.
Our 6th graders have almost completed their first year as MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. It is exciting to see the gains they have made in their ability to organize their time and manage multiple classes. This is a good time to go into PowerSchool and check your student’s grades. Where have they improved compared to T1 and T2? What growth can you congratulate them on? This is a great time of year to have a conversation with your student about goals for the end of the year. However, If your 6th grader is struggling to get the hang of things in middle school please reach out to their teachers or counselor.
