NEWSLETTER
Week 7 - Term 4 - Friday, 19th November 2021
From the Principal's Desk…
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to start this newsletter by announcing our new school captains for 2022. Congratulations to Eloise S. and Joshua H. I look forward to working with these two students to lead our school throughout 2022.
It was fantastic last week to be part of the audience for the fourteen students who nominated for school captains. I was so impressed by their confidence to present themselves to all staff and students from grades three to six. Their speeches all spoke of their passion and desire to represent our school. Congratulations to all students who presented speeches, you should be extremely proud of yourselves. Our students then voted with the teachers to shortlist for the positions. Congratulations to Kayden C, Max L, and Brookley H who were part of the shortlisted five along with Eloise and Josh. I am very impressed with the calibre of our grade five students and their desire to lead our school in the future.
Term four seems to be in overdrive as there are lots of activities planned for each grade level and as a whole school. This week we held a Wear Pink for Breast Cancer fundraiser and raised over $400.00 – thank you! The school was a sea of pink on Wednesday.
There are a range of reward activities over the following weeks for our SWPBS program, our students have been earning rewards for following all of our school values and rules throughout the past two terms. Last week we held a very successful crazy hair day which was enjoyed by all. Sharyn Borg has more information regarding this further on in our newsletter.
Many of the planned activities will need parent helpers so do not be surprised if one of our teachers asks if you are interested in participating in a trip to fun fields or Healesville Sanctuary.
We are still under a fairly strict operations guide although numbers for vaccinations are increasing. At this stage I have not heard if density limits will be changing in primary schools as most of our student population is unvaccinated. Mask wearing remains the same – I had a departmental briefing this afternoon. Students from grades three to six and staff are to continue wearing masks inside our buildings. If there are further changes that impact our school setting, I will let you know straight away as this could affect some of our planned activities such as graduation.
Our school Christmas Concert will be on Tuesday 14th December and will be held outside on the oval. There are no density numbers, vaccine or mask requirements for this event as it is outside. We are hoping to start at 5pm and invite all our families to bring a picnic rug and a picnic to enjoy the event. (Fingers crossed for warm weather to dry the oval out and for the evening itself).
This week also saw the start of our transition program for prep 2022, we have two prep classes for next year and it was wonderful to be able to do this in person and see their smiling faces. Next year we have three sets of twins starting in prep – this is very exciting and a first for myself and our prep teachers.
Our chickens are extremely happy to be back onsite and we have a few dozen eggs for sale in the office. They are only $5:00 a dozen and the money goes to buy chicken food. Please pop into the office to have a ready supply of fresh eggs. We also have some lovely broad beans from the veggie gardens.
Our JSC have decided upon a fantastic idea to support the Healesville community, especially the younger members. They would like families to donate a present for children that will not be receiving much this Christmas. We will be putting our Christmas tree in the foyer from the start of December. Please label you gift for male, female, unisex and a rough idea of age. The JSC will also be having an icy pole fundraiser on Wednesday 8th December to raise funds for HICCI. Thank you also to the many families that have been donating food for HICCI, it is fantastic to see so much support for the Healesville community.
Regards,
Tracey
SWPBS Update
Hello everyone. I have included in today’s newsletter a copy of the five school rules we have been working on at school. When the children follow these rules, they earn tokens. Once we have filled the token holders to 1/4, ½, ¾ and full, the children receive whole school rewards. We have recently celebrated “Crazy hair day,” as the children have worked hard and earned a lot of “Learning” tokens. We have one more whole school reward coming up, which is extra play time.
It might be a good idea to discuss the rules at home with your child/ren. The same rules can apply to many different situations at school, I’m sure the children can explain them to you and give examples.
Thank you for your support.
Sharyn Borg
