Cottonwood Creek Cougar Chronicle
October 23, 2020
A Message from your Principal, Katie Johnson
We continue to be successful at Cottonwood Creek as we navigate this school year during a pandemic. Our students and staff are diligent about Wearing masks, Washing hands, and Watching distance. As I walk our building, I see students learning and teachers teaching.
As Dr. Siegfried shared last Friday, As residents of Arapahoe County, we took significant action that allowed for the school year to start on-time and In-Person in August. Since Labor Day, however, as a community we have not managed the virus well. This week, new cases and transmission rates are higher than we have ever experienced (CLICK HERE to view TriCounty Health Departments COVID-19 Case Reporting). CCSD will continue to monitor the COVID Tracker to determine whether we stay in person OR transition to remote learning. Please note that the Tri-County Health Department data server is currently down for repair, which is impacting neighborhood and school district dashboards. Due to this impact, the CCSD COVID Tracker is not accurate and has been taken down until the Tri-County server and school district dashboards are back up and running.
In the meantime, we are preparing for a possible remote learning situation. We have been working with our students to join Microsoft Teams meetings at school. We have learned that one of the best ways to access MS Teams is to download the MS Teams App at home which is far more reliable.
CLICK HERE to access the link to the download the Teams App. The “desktop” download is for regular computers and laptops, and the “mobile” is for phones, iPads, etc. When opening the app for the first time, your child will be prompted to sign in. Students should use their mycherrycreek username (with @cherrycreekschools.org) and password. Once downloaded, students can simply go straight to the Team App to find meeting links created by their classroom teacher, or they can go through mycherrycreek.org --> Teams tile --> choose to open the meeting in the app when prompted.
Below you will find the schedule for all CCSD Elementary students during remote learning. If/when we move to remote learning, we will provide more information about Synchronous and Asynchronous learning. This information is shared to provide you with information in advance so you are able to think about what things will look like in a possible remote learning situation.
Thank you again for your continued support in helping keep our staff, students and community safe and healthy.

4A and 4B
I encourage you to take a moment to educate yourself on 4A and 4B by visiting https://www.citizensforcherrycreekschools.com prior to voting this fall.
4A at a Glance
Operational Expenses – $35 million
Due to continued drastic underfunding by the state of Colorado, CCSD is facing a shortfall of more than $60 million over the next two years. To ensure that every student succeeds, we must provide safe and supportive classrooms with excellent teachers, nurses on hand every day, mental health supports, and the technology tools necessary to learn. Revenue would be collected at a rate of $1.65 per $100,000 of home value, a small price for a huge investment.
4B at a Glance
Without imposing any new taxes, 4B allows for Cherry Creek School District No 5 debt to be increased by $150 million. This would allow for:
- $7 million to build a mental health/day treatment center to support students.
- $26 million for new and improved safety and security measures to include a new intercom system, push-button deadbolt locks for all classroom doors, secure double vestibules at elementary and middle schools, camera upgrades, and a new fire alarm system throughout the district.
- $12 million to ensure all students have access to technology during periods of remote learning at a one device per student ratio and update core facilities such as Data Center, wireless network, web filtering, and firewall.
- $9 million to provide funding for every high school to renovate space to create innovative environments that transform learning.
- $5 million for Cherry Creek Innovation Campus Expansion, including expanding programming options and creating new pathways for in-demand careers and expanding nursing and mental health certification programs.
- $88 million for major maintenance and a possible new elementary school in southeast Aurora. Repairs include asphalt/concrete, doors/hardware/keys, glazing, carpet/floors, mechanical/electrical/plumbing, fire protection, roofing, and utility/special infrastructure.
- $3 million for a renovation of the cafeteria space at Village East Elementary School.
