January Happenings in Room 203
Mrs. Ryberg's 2nd Grade
WELCOME BACK
Braving this weather to start back has been rough, but we are back in full swing! :)
IN CLASS...
We have been working hard! Here is what each subject area has brought us:
MATH: We are continuing to work on regrouping (carrying) in addition. We are also exploring 3-d shapes in Geometry.
SCIENCE: We started working on sound and are loving learning about the way it moves!
LANGUAGE ARTS: Students got new journals this week and are working on writing good full sentences. We also started informational writing as part of a district goal. In reading we are continuing to work on reading with comprehension and being able to retell a story using the SOMEBODY (main character) WANTED (main idea), BUT (problem), SO (solution) THEN (the ending) model. Try it when you read at home to reinforce this!
SOCIAL STUDIES: In our building-wide "BUNCHES" this week we reviewed respect. This month our Pirate Principle is CARING. A heart-to-heart page came home with your student. Please help them work on it and return it. Having reinforcing conversations at home about character is powerful!
SPELLING: Students are on the 2nd half of the year, so the shift has moved away from simple spelling patterns and into working with syllables in words. Practice at night makes writing easier at school! Next week we are reviewing first semester and working on spelling correctly in our writing. Look for a new list on Friday's homework page next week!
TECHNOLOGY: I am considering letting students work on this newsletter in the future. Currently, we are writing individual goals and will blog about them next week. Keep an eye on our website for that! :) http://kidblog.org/MrsR2013-14/
