QUEEN NAMED JSCD CURRICULUM ALL-STAR OF THE MONTH
We are excited to share that our Curriculum All-Star for August has been chosen. Studies indicate that students who are taught using a standards-aligned and content-rich high-quality curriculum tend to perform better than their peers on reading comprehension tests.
In fact, switching from a weak curriculum to a strong one, such as the adopted High-Quality Instructional Material (HQIM) for the district, has had a positive impact on student achievement. As part of our efforts to promote the use of HQIM, each month, we will spotlight teachers who consistently and effectively use the adopted HQIM in their classrooms.
For August, our Curriculum All-Star Teacher is Dr. Timothy Queen. Dr. Queen is a fourth-grade ELA teacher at Jefferson County Elementary School. “Dr. Queen's commitment to implementing Into Reading is commendable,“ said Curriculum Director Rankin. “I can immediately tell upon entering his classroom that he not only plans but also internalizes the lessons. By using the HQIM, students are engaged in the type of rigorous instruction that will yield improved benchmark and end-of-year assessment scores.”
The Office of Curriculum and Instruction, along with school and district leaders, are excited to celebrate Dr. Queen and his dedication to implementing the reading HQIM.
Please join us in celebrating his hard work!
