Board Meeting Details
This special Board of Education meeting was held in person at the District Office with no pandemic-related capacity limit. In-person public comment was available for attendees.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m.
2. Approval of Meeting Agenda
The agenda was approved.
3.1. Caruso Auditorium Bid Results Discussion
Dr. Filippi presented the bid results for the renovation of the Caruso Middle School auditorium. This is a project that has been discussed for the better part of a decade, and was put on hold last year as the district wasn't sure of the financial impact that the COVID-19 pandemic would have. DPS 109 is now prepared to potentially go ahead with the project.
The district received 14 bids. The low responsible bidder (Happ Builders) came in at $6.3 million. With the contribution of $1 million from the Deerfield Park District, the cost to the Board of Education would be approximately $5,344,500. The administration recommends that the board move forward.
Tim Ryan, the Director of Buildings & Grounds, and Carole Pugh from Green & Associates were on hand to answer questions about the project.
The board spent a great deal of time discussing the project and will consider the auditorium project as an action item on the agenda for their regularly scheduled Thursday meeting.
