A Busy Pre-Break Week
Wellesley College is looking at adolescent social media use and it's relationship to students' health and behaviors. All students at CMS will be asked to take an online survey asking about a wide range of areas involving social media. Some of the areas may be sensitive and include topics such as substance abuse, dating/sex, and self-harm (there are 3 questions total in these areas). Some of these questions will only be in the survey for grades 7 and 8. Please note that no child is required to take the survey and an opt-out form is attached to this newsletter and coming home with your child as well. A copy of the survey will be available for parents to review at CMS next week in the main office. The information being collected will also be shared with parents after the survey is complete - this may not be until next year. We are one of several schools that were asked to participate in the study.
Our second event is similarly focused on social media. On Wednesday night, Mr. Greeley and Mr. Freeman will present on social media use and monitoring at our February PTO meeting. They will share some of the sites we are aware of, describe how our students are using them (both positive and negative) and talk about how you can best monitor your child's social media use. It will be a great and informative presentation at 6:30pm.
Finally, CMS has joined the Morrill Memorial Library in their annual Bruins Pajama Drive. Starting Monday, students can bring in new pajamas for children. We have a collection box in the main office. Tony Mazzucco has added a competitive challenge that the school that collects the most PJs will get an ice cream party! (Does he know I have 750 students?!?!?!) And of course we will #beatBourne the reigning champions of this event.
So there will be no rest during this final week before break here at CMS! Have a great weekend!

Chromebook Tips Update
- Remind students that NOTHING should be stored inside their Chromebook case (except their Chromebook) when they close it with other items inside, it cracks the screen.
- Try to keep the battery level above 10% dropping below can cause a hard shut down which can be difficult to restart and recharge.
- Bring those earbuds!
- Charge EVERY night!
