Sky Hawk News for Parents/Guardians
Week of November 2 - 6, 2020
Sky Hawk Families:
We are going into the 3rd week of the 2nd nine weeks. Here are a few tips for success:
- Your student should be on time and logged in to class for each period, each day.
- Have your student turn their camera on and engage with the teacher and other students.
- Your student needs to be present to hear their teacher explain important concepts and tasks for the day.
- Have your student check their course grades weekly.
- Have your student write a daily to-do list. Focus on completing small tasks and do large tasks in chunks.
- Encourage your student to message their teacher if they have a question about their assignment.
- Encourage your student to review the recorded instruction for their classes.
Thank you all for working so hard with your student(s) and our teachers as we continue to navigate this new normal of the school year.
P.A.R.K. Outreach ProgramPARK Outreach is a program that focuses on students who are having some academic challenges and put tools and resources in place to help them with school work and increase their ability to achieve academically. Not only do they provide tutoring services, but the program is designed to follow them through high school and give opportunities to be awarded scholarships to attend college. The recruitment starts in middle school with 7th and 8th grade students. Contact pamela.lewis@lrsd.org or beverly.gentry@lrsd.org for an application. | Check In/Out ProcessWe are trying to limit contact this year and that includes our check in/out process. We are eliminating the use of pen and paper to reduce transmission of germs. This year, we ask that you please use the check in/out form on the PVMS app. We also have a QR code you can scan posted on the front door. Please step into the lobby so we know you are here and be prepared to show ID if asked. We do not have windows in our front office to see the parking lot, so you will need to come in to pick up your student. | Hearing and Vision ScreeningsHearing and Vision Screenings are required each year for all 6th and 8th students by the state. PVMS will be having a screening day for all virtual students on Monday, November 23 from 9-12:00 in the gym. Please email or call the nurse at kami.grisham@lrsd.org or 447-8505 to make an appointment for screening. Parents will need to park down by the gym. |

An update from the Foreign Language Department:
Languages & CulturesIn Language and Culture the students are learning about French culture. They will start on a French project where they will research a French speaking country. French project date November 02 and due November 09. After the project we will move on to learn about the German Culture (November 16). During the German unit the students will learn about the Holocaust, Berlin Wall, music, food, and do a similar research project. | Honors Spanish 1During the 1st 9 weeks, students learned the foundations of Spanish- the alphabet, pronunciation, greetings, numbers, punctuation, etc. We celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, ending with a project in which they selected a Hispanic or Latin American of their choice to research and create a holiday for. This week, they will learn about the holiday Día de los Muertos. This 9 weeks, students will start learning how to communicate in Spanish in full sentences, focusing on vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure! | Honors Spanish 2 We spent the first 9 weeks playing catch up from the time we lost last year! We reviewed from Spanish 1, learned new vocabulary, and finished off the 9 weeks with a classroom story. They are currently building shoebox ofrendas for famous people to celebrate Día de los Muertos. Those will be displayed this week in the library! This 9 weeks we will move on to the “past tense” in Spanish. The goal is that by the end of the semester, they can hold conversations in Spanish, switching back and forth between past, present, and future tenses. |
