In the Clinic with Nurse Santana
If your child has asthma we are asking that you confer with your healthcare provider on whether your child should participate in the Color Run on Friday, May 21st. The powdered colors used in the Color Run are made from corn starch which could irritate the airways of someone with asthma and result in an asthma flare-up. Other ingredients include talc, coal tar, turmeric, dyes, and salts. People with asthma should be aware of the potential risk associated with inhaling these small particles and use their best judgment as to whether it will affect them. If you choose for your asthmatic child to participate in the Color Run, please ensure someone is available to pick them up in an emergency situation if there is not emergency medication for them in the clinic. Remember, scholars MAY NOT carry any kind of medication in their backpacks/purses for any reason, and doing so is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct. If you wish to send medication to the clinic please contact me at 281-641-2005 to discuss the procedures for doing so. Don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.

As the school year winds down, communicate with your child's teacher: What skills can you work on during the summer to ensure your child is ready for the next grade? Are there suggested summer reading books for your child's grade level? Is there a recommended website or app they can have children visit to gain some additional skills practice? Continuing learning while children are out of school for the summer helps to prevent the "summer slide" and helps children start the new school year feeling more confident.
