CPS Teachers Make A Difference
Week Ending February 12, 2016
The Valentine's Day Edition!
On Friday, February 19th, we have another field trip for the students. The bus will leave at 9:15 and return by 12:30. 9th-12th will meet with Hands-On Broward, while the younger group has their weekly social skills session with Sandy. I would like for Tracey and Sandy to chaperone the field trip. For the others, we will have class as usual until 9:10 and then we will have a faculty meeting from 9:30 -11:30AM.
Taking pictures for Catching Them in the Act each week. Thank you to those who have been diligent in taking pictures each week and sending them to Traci Haberland by Thursday each week. Here are a few tips:
1. Take only pictures of students facing forward. We have more than enough pictures of backs of heads and behinds.
2. Stand over the students. Taking a picture standing on a chair works well.
3. Try and get as many students in a picture as possible.
4. Use the zoom feature to get an up-close shot.
5. Students should be engaged in an activity.
6. Please remember that original work is preferable to worksheets. Please do not take pictures of worksheets to post (even if colored in neatly).
Week of March 21- 25 days to work. We will fill you in on the placements as they come through. If you have an idea, where our students can volunteer and learn about a specific agency or need in the community, please share.
Monday, March 21st - Traci and Rachel
Tuesday, March 22nd - Joyce and Traci
Wednesday, March 23rd - Tracey and Tyler
Thursday, March 24th - Jumana and Nora
Friday, March 25th - Tracey and Sandy
Thank you Nora for finding this outstanding site to help us better to understand our students. https://www.understood.org/en/tools/through-your-childs-eyes This site allows you to click on the issue the student is having (math computation, organization, reading, etc. ) shows you a video from the perspective of the student and has a simulation challenge for teachers to experience what the student may be going through. I encourage you all to go through.

Professional Development - Learning to use Moodle
The Moodle platform can be difficult at first and it will take time for all of us to learn all of its benefits. Moodle provides teachers with a 4 week course. Each week you will learn a bit more about the features and how you can use them on the site. I would appreciate if each of you could please sign up for the course as it will be beneficial.
