Luis Valdez Leadership Academy

Message from Your Principal

Dear Lion,

My hope is that you are well and have had a productive week thus far. We are off to a great start! You have logged on remarkably well and are now getting into a routine! I will make my message brief considering the amount of information that is included in this newsletter. One very important matter is the change to next week's schedule next week. It is very important to note the change.

Additionally, I want to encourage you to visit our website, which includes our Family and Student Handbook and the 2020/2021 School Calendar.

Lastly, a reminder that there is no school on Monday, September 7, 2020 in observation of Labor Day, which recognizes the creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. My hope is that you enjoy the day with your loved ones.

Have a great rest of your week!

Your Principal,

Message from your Dean of Students

Student Leadership

Digital Citizenship

Now that we have a few weeks of remote learning behind us, please remember our LIONS Core values.

I am receiving feedback from staff members regarding a few email profile pictures. Keep in mind that your school-issued email account profile picture should display either a photo of you, an appropriate image, or have no photo at all so that your initials are displayed. Images that may be deemed to promote hate or violence are not tolerated, and are not allowed.

I am proud of your positive decorum in your meetings so far. When you see a classmate fall a little short of our citizenship expectation, be a friend; but more importantly, be a leader and help them by being a great example.

Have a great week!

Mr. Monroy

Vince D. Monroy

Dean of Students

11th and 12th Grade students, if you are enrolled in a dual credit course this semester, please be sure to fill out your SJCC application online and R-40. Applications must be filled out by Tuesday, September 1, 2020. R40 Forms are due Friday, September 4, 2020. Please ensure you have emailed your completed form to Ms.Gonzalez.

SJCC Application:

Instructions on filling out the application:

There is a change in next week's schedule to balance instructional minutes for Block A, B, and C that would otherwise be lost due to the Monday holiday, Labor Day.

Wednesday's schedule will reflect Block A, Block B, and Block C. This means next week we will not have our regular Wednesday, but rather it will be a Monday day. Replacing Monday with Wednesday appeared to be the least disruptive, so thank you for your understanding of the change. Please do contact the office if you have questions. The schedule is below.

Additional weeks that will encounter this change are the weeks of: Labor Day, Indigenous Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Memorial Day.

Dear Students,

I want to thank all of you that took time out of your busy schedule for joining me through google meets.

I would like to share some tips that could be very effective for distance learning.

  1. Set daily goals for studying - setting a clear goal can help you stay focused and motivated.

  2. Create a dedicated study space - make something that is not your bed or sofa, we tend to get comfy.

  3. Schedule time to study on your calendar - this will help ensure that your class work will be on the top list of your to-do list.

  4. Keep yourself accountable - having a support group that can cheer you on makes a big difference.

  5. Actively take notes - taking notes promotes active thinking and are very helpful for review.

  6. Join the discussion- participate in class and always ask questions if you don’t understand something or need clarification. Your opinion is important.

  7. Do one thing at a time - you will be more effective if you do one thing at time and will be more productive.

  8. Take breaks - it’s important to take care of yourself and grab a snack or go get some fresh air.

Remember to reach out if you need support. Have a great week.

Please note that start date for Cross Country and Girl's Volley Ball is contingent Safety Orders have been lifted and deemed safe by the state and Santa Clara County of Public Health.
