The Ned Show
The NED assembly was great. We loved talking about the power of having a growth mindset! The yo-yo sale was a big hit. There were many laughs and big smiles as students helped Ned complete his Mindset Mission.

Magowan Winter Concert
Happy Holidays to all from the Music Department here at Magowan School. We have been working very hard in preparation for our winter concert (which will be held at Ridgway School Tuesday Dec. 18th at 7:00). The students are very excited to perform, and I think we are going to have another wonderful evening of great music.
Chorus and band members should report to Ridgway at 6:20. The dress code for the performers at the evening performance is dress pants/skirt and a dress shirt for all participants (a nice dress for girls, or a suit and tie for boys is also acceptable). Please no Jeans, T shirts, shorts, or sneakers if possible.
In consideration of the other performers, and in an attempt to make the entire concert experience more enjoyable for everyone, there will be only three groups performing at this concert. Family members of the performers should remain in the auditorium for the duration of the concert (which will be approximately 45 Minutes). Performers will be supervised at all times and should not be picked up until the concert’s completion. Attendance at the concert is mandatory for all Magowan chorus and band members because as part of a performing group students are part of a team and they rely on each other to contribute their best effort.
Lastly, there will be another opportunity at this year’s concert to make a donation to our music program. Your financial support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, and have a blessed Holiday,
Scott Reed, Magowan School Music Teacher/Band Director
Attention Parents of Pre Kindergarten Students:
The State of New Jersey requires that all Pre K students who will not be 5 years of age by December 31st to receive an Influenza shot by December 31st. Students under 5 years old who do not receive a Flu Shot by December 31st will be excluded from school. Please note that the State of NJ does not allow any “grace periods.” Parents of students who come to school on January 2nd without the shot will be called to pick up their student.
Clothing Donations
The nurse’s office is in need of clothing donations! Pants for boys and girls in sizes 4 through 12 are especially needed, so please take a few moments to gather those items that no longer fit your child and send them to the nurse’s office. Thank you! .

Attendance
When you miss school, you miss out, and we miss you!
Are you planning a family trip for the holidays? As you think about your arrangements, we want to stress the importance of sending your child to school every day possible. Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after the winter holiday as families squeeze in a few more vacation days. It’s time to break that cycle. We know that just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school. Put simply, too many absences at any age can affect a student’s chances for academic success and eventually for graduation.
We recognize that holidays are an important time for reconnecting with families far away. The costs of plane tickets often influence when you want to travel. But keep in mind the costs to your children’s education if they miss too much school— and the message you will be sending about the importance of attendance. Even if you’ve got a homework packet from the teacher, it doesn’t make up for the interaction and learning that happens in the classroom. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning, right up until vacation starts and the first day back. You can help us convey that message. This holiday season, give your children the gift of an education and the habit of attendance.

NJ's 3rd Congressional Reading Challenge
The District Reading Challenge was created to encourage students in New Jersey's Third Congressional District to read in their free time. With so many distractions and commitments facing kids these days, a focus on reading is important and we want to challenge the kids in NJ's 3rd District to start the school year off right! This reading challenge will be open to all students and can be easily managed through this site.
- Participating students must read and complete the online form below for three books before the March 22nd deadline
- The contest starts at the beginning of the school year and ends on March 22, 2019 - All forms must be submitted by March 22 to be an eligible participant in the contest
How to begin:
- Start Reading!
- Complete the form provided and answer questions for each book read
- Each child who meets the criteria outlined above will receive a Congressional Certificate from Congressman MacArthur
Smoking Prohibited On School Grounds
Attention parents of preschool children
Does your child have difficulty in one or more of the following areas:
Hearing - Seeing - Talking - Listening - Sitting - Standing - Walking - Running - Feeding One Self
Toilet Training - Socializing
The school district offers FREE PROGRAMS to preschool handicapped children. To be eligible a child must be 3-5 years old and qualify for services. Children under 3 may be served by early intervention programs. We believe the sooner a child's special needs can be determined, the better that child's chances to receive an appropriate education and develop his/her potential.
