23rd District PTA - Focus on PTA
Welcome to the new 23rd District Newsletter! We are so glad you're here! We are working hard to improve communication with all 9 councils and 225+ units we cover, and we want to make sure that you have everything you need to be successful!
23rd District PTA is here to support you - and all of our units and councils! That support is what makes PTA different. It is who we are together that makes PTA what it is - the oldest child advocacy organization in the world. As we look at a year that is different than any we've seen before, we are working to curate resources to ensure that no matter how different our year will be - we will still reach our families and children!
Upcoming Events - August
August General Association Meeting - We're calling you to attend!
This meeting is virtual - so you can join from the comfort of your own home! We need to make quorum, too, and we want to hear your voices!
We will be ratifying appointments, adopting the budget, releasing funds, adopting new programs, and providing valuable information to help our Councils and Units be successful during our closures. Presidents or their delegates, we want to see you!
Don't forget the Focus on Finance [General Finance] Training at 5:00 P.M. on August 13, 2020! If you would like to register for this training, please email Office@23rdDistrict.org by August 11th, 2020. Training information will be send to all interested parties on August 12th, 2020.

Advocacy - Your Voice Matters!
From Vice President of Advocacy D. LaDonna Jempson:
If you remember, a resolution was passed at the CA State PTA Virtual Convention to ban flavored tobacco products.
This is considered SB (Senate Bill) 793 and will go to the Assembly Health Committee for a vote on August 4th. Please support by clicking the link to Take Action below which will go straight to our Assemblymember Jose Medina. Ask for his support on this bill.

Parliamentary Procedure - Get Those Bylaws Up-to-Date!
Bylaws submission is easier than ever, and it can all be done online. Don't forget - In-Council units must submit bylaws via their Council.
- Units with completed bylaws to submit for approval to California State PTA should email the following to Bylaws@23rdDistrict.org
The following must be included for bylaws to be submitted:
- Completed District Submittal Cover Sheet including all changes (attached to this email!)
- Unit/Officer email contact information
- Street Address for bylaws return
- All pages of the bylaws - including all Standing Rules
Units with out-of-date bylaws will be receiving notices from 23rd District PTA. We want to do what we can to help all of our units be compliant!
