Student Sucess Act
The Oregon Legislature passed and the Governor signed the $2 billion Student Success Act (HB 3427) in Spring 2019. This is an historic and much needed investment in K-12 schools. The Beaverton School District could be able to access an estimated $34 million per year through a state application process.
School districts are required to apply for funds, and must engage their community in a needs assessment process prior to the application for funds. We will host a series of Community Conversations - Speak Up 4 Student Success in several locations throughout the BSD. Schools will also be engaging their communities in these conversations during September and October.
Please join us to talk about what student success looks like in the Beaverton School District? What is going well in Beaverton schools? What areas/services/programs could we improve?
Your voice matters! We welcome your perspective and opinion.

Fall Class Parties
- Snacks need to be healthy. There are a lot of great creative, healthy snack ideas on Pinterest and other websites. We want our students to be fueled for the rest of their day.
- If you are volunteering for the party, please sign up beforehand on myvp.com. We will have lists of scheduled volunteers printed so that you can quickly sign in on paper as you enter the school. As a reminder, volunteers who are here during the school day should not bring younger siblings to volunteer (this is district policy). Volunteers wear their personalized volunteer badges or blue volunteer badges.
- We will also have visitors to our class parties. Visitors are individuals whose presence in our school is not ongoing or frequent. Visitors also need to sign in, and may not interact with children other than their own. Visitors wear yellow lanyard badges or yellow visitor stickers.
Signing in to volunteer or visit can take time, especially when we have many parents attending parties. Please plan time to check in and be patient as we get all of our visitors and volunteers signed in. If you have a your own volunteer badge, or one that has accidentally gone home with you, please bring it. We are looking forward to a fun day!
Costume Guidelines
Each class will have a fall class party on Thursday, October 31st. Teachers will communicate class party times to their classes.
Costumes are optional for class parties. If you choose to send a costume for your child to wear, please follow these guidelines:
- No weapons
- No blood, no gore
- Costumes only during party
- Costume must go over clothing
- Students must be able to put the costume on without adult assistance
OBOB
We are very excited to begin Oregon battle of The Books (OBOB) with your students. This is a fun competition that will encourage students to read a wide range of genres and authors. It is also a great exercise in teamwork and camaraderie.
OBOB teams comprise of 3-5 team members at a time that battle to see who can remember the most facts about a book. Teams read 16 pre-chosen books.
Battles will be during the school day. One team will have a chance to advance to regionals. To learn a little bit more about OBOB and see this years wonderful list of books you may visit the official website at http://www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org/
Parent support will be necessary in order for our students to successfully compete. Each team will need a parent coach. I will need 2 parent volunteers per grade to help during battles.
Students may choose to borrow books from the school, public library or purchase the books in order to read and study before the battles begin in January.
Please sign and return the parent permission form below.

Testing for 3rd and 5th Graders
In October, all 3rd and 5th grade students in Beaverton will be administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screener. This 30-minute test measures students’ learned reasoning abilities through verbal/picture analogies, number analogies and figure matrices.
Currently the main purpose for administering the CogAT is to identify students for TAG in the area of intellectual ability. Students who score at the 97th percentile or above on the CogAT screener will be invited to test with the full version of the CogAT that is used for potential TAG identification. The full version of the CogAT will be given in November. For more information about testing, your school’s TAG facilitator. When test results are returned, we will be sending you a copy with additional information about our TAG program.
Change of After School Plans?
The 2pm deadline allows us to communicate the changes to all affected students and teachers prior to dismissal. Since we typically have a large number of changes each day, we may not be able to accommodate your request if you call after 2pm.
