The Chinese felt writing was a way to express beauty. Every character is painted with a specific order and amount of brush strokes. Typically, the brush paintings on silk and paper scrolls, are very detailed. Simplicity and love of natural beauty are both themes in Japanese art.

Flower Arranging and Gardening

Buddhists brought the flower arranging art to Japan. Bonsai is the art of growing miniature trees in pots or trays. Landscapers created Zen gardens to help people think quietly. They are formed with rocks and few trees or flowers. They incorporated the nature part from the Shinto religion.
