Important Attendance Information
This year, we have had students attending classes both in person (on campus) and virtually. Each period of each day, they are coded in attendance based on how they participate in the class (in person or virtually). As the year has progressed, there have been different interpretations of what can be permissible with respect to attendance under TEA's guidelines. I am sending this communication to help clarify and ensure students are attending classes and being coded appropriately.
If a student is an on campus student, they must be physically present in class in order to be counted present for the class. There are no exceptions to this. If an on campus student needs to go virtual, the parent can contact their house office and be changed to a virtual student if needed. If a student is a virtual student, they participate in classes online. If they do the attendance assignment each period and participate online, they will be coded as attending class virtually. Virtual students can come to campus to be in person for certain approved courses, if needed.
Please take note that accrual of too many absences can lead to loss of credit for a course. Please check your student's attendance. If you have any concerns, please reach out to your student's house office.
Students, ensure you are following the attendance guidelines for on campus for virtual from now through the end of the year.

From the Nursing Department
Each year, the state of Texas requires students to complete a vision and hearing screening and a spinal screening for age-appropriate individuals.
Some virtual learning students have not been screened this school year. If you would like to schedule an appointment to have your student screened by their campus nurse, email latasha.estes@bisdmail.net or call 817.245.0256.
If you prefer not to bring your student in for screening, the Department of State Health Services encourages parents to take their children to a medical provider for well child exams. During these appointments you can ask for screenings. If your child is screened, we encourage you to send us the results of those screens for our records.
Signs of a possible vision problem include:
Squinting
Tilting the head
Sitting too close to the television
Constant eye rubbing
Abnormal alignment or movement of the eyes
Signs of a possible hearing problem include:
Your child wants volumes louder than other members of the family
Your child often says “What?”
It seems like your child isn’t listening
Your child seems to hear fine sometimes and not others
Signs your child may have an abnormal spinal curvature:
Uneven shoulders or hips
Ribs that are prominent or stick out in one area
Muscles that are prominent in the lower back or bulge on one side
If you think your child has a vision or hearing problem, or an abnormal spinal curvature, please contact the school nurse. Discuss your concerns with them right away.
CDC Travel Regulations
Please be informed of the current executive order regarding international air travel into the United States. The order requires individuals to obtain a negative COVID test prior to international flights into the U.S. and self-quarantine based on these CDC guidelines:
All air passengers get tested 3-5 days after travel AND quarantine for 7 days after travel. Even if the person tests negative, they need to remain home for 7 days. Individuals who do not get a test 3-5 days after travel need to quarantine for 10 days.
