Distance Learning Opt-In
We understand and acknowledge the parent/guardian decision to have their child distance learn during these uncertain times. If you feel distance learning would be a better fit for your child, please contact your child's school. For planning purposes, please let the building principals know of your decision by the following dates:
- Quarter 3 = Jan. 15
- Quarter 4 = March 19
Elementary Information
MMN Elementary will return to school under the in-person learning model on January 4th. We will continue with enhanced protocols and should be able to remain in-person for the remainder of the year. Please communicate with your child’s teacher if your children will be distance learning. Students, families, and staff need to continue staying home if they have any symptoms and follow the guidelines of wearing masks and social distancing.
Together we will continue to do our best to control the spread of the virus and keep our schools open. Please continue to wear masks and practice social distancing. Keep your children home if they have any symptoms. Depending on the situation, students and staff may be quarantined for 10, 14, or 24 days when exposed to COVID-19. Students walking or arriving by vehicle should continue to enter the building by the Kindergarten doors. All buses line up in front of the big gym and office area and enter by the main office. Please start using the main entrance during the day if needed.

Appleton-Milan
December Greetings Appleton-Milan Elementary School Families!
I hope this letter finds you all well and acclimating to this new way of living and learning. We appreciate your continued support as our school navigates its way through this unprecedented school year. I wanted to take a moment to provide a few more details regarding the latest change to our Learning Model. We thank you in advance for your patience as launching a new learning model in the middle of the school year is not only challenging, but also time consuming. Here is what you need to know for the days leading up to Winter Break (Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020 - Sunday, Jan. 3rd 2021):
● Dec. 14th, 15th, 17th, and 18th will be regular school days.
● Wednesday, Dec. 16th will be a staff planning day. There is no school for students on this day.
● Monday, Dec. 21-Wednesday, Dec. 23rd will be Distance Learning days for students.
Our Distance Learning Plan allows students to continue learning academically, socially, and physically. Keep in mind that each grade level will look different based on the developmental level of students. Teachers will use a variety of instructional modes for student learning. These might include: ● Paper/pencil packets
● Video instruction, lessons, assignments, and learning materials posted on teacher webpages
● SeeSaw platform in grades K-1
● Google Classroom platform in grades 2-4
Additional Distance Learning Details are as follows:
● All students will be provided with a district digital device
○ iPads in grades K-1
○ Chromebooks in grades 2-4
○ The above digital devices and their components should be treated with great care and returned with students when the school shifts back to the In Person Learning model.
○ Contact the elementary school office if you are in need of Internet Assistance
● Attendance will be taken daily by the classroom teacher. Students will need to join a live lesson or connect with the teacher in another format (email, phone, etc.). If a student doesn’t join a live lesson, check in with their teacher, or complete/turn in assignments, they will be marked absent for that day.
● Families can sign up for meals on the district website: www.lqpv.org
● Teachers will be available during regular school hours~7:30-3:30. ○ Please utilize BLOOMZ or email to contact your student’s teacher.
● The elementary school office will maintain regular school hours~7:30-3:30.
Distance Learning requires all parties to be active participants. Here are a few helpful hints for families:
● Maintain a regular school day schedule/routine~this may not be possible for everyone, but do your best!
● Keep a regular bedtime routine on school nights.
● Wake up at an appropriate time on school days.
● Eat a healthy breakfast.
● Have devices charged up and ready to go for daily learning.
● Contact the classroom teacher if you have any questions.
Again, we thank you for the investment in your student’s education. Working together, we can make Distance Learning a success. We look forward to having everyone back in our building very soon. The Learning Model decision for after Winter Break will be made the week of Dec. 14th. Please stay tuned to the district website for more information.
Always learning, Mrs. Heinecke
Winter is Here!
Virtual Snow Days
Once again this school year, Lac qui Parle Valley School District will be implementing Virtual Snow Days. The district will allow two snow days to be forgiven. If a third snow day is accrued, teachers will utilize the Virtual Snow Day format for the 3rd through 7th snow days if applicable. Teachers will provide Virtual Snow Day worksheets to students at school in a hard copy format to be placed in their take home folders. The worksheets will also be available on the school website. Teachers will be available to students via email during regular school hours for questions. The day following the Virtual Snow Day, students will bring their completed worksheets (with a parent /guardian signature) to school and turn them into their teachers for credit.
Athletics/Activities
Schedules will be posted on the Athletics/Activities website. https://lqpv.rschoolteams.com/
During Distance or Hybrid Learning: Practice buses will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at their normal time. We will not run a practice bus on Wednesday just like we did in the fall. Students will need to find a ride for Wednesday practices.
