SWE STAR GAZER
Every Student...Every Day
**August 30 Edition**
Dear Star Family,
As we once again see the effects of the pandemic in Humble ISD and at SWE., we will work together to support our students, families and staff through this ever changing and challenging time. SWE continues to be anchored in providing engaging learning experiences and building strong relationships as we ride the waves of change and challenges.
Our staff has been supporting each other day to day to provide the best learning environment for our Stars. Nurse Takacs has been busy taking care of our Stars, big and small! Mrs. Yolanda and her custodial team have been working hard to keep our building clean , sanitized and disinfected. Parents have been monitoring their Stars health, keeping those that are sick at home and reporting positive cases. Our Star community is truly rallying together during these challenging times!
I want to assure you that there will be no adverse consequences for students being absent due to illness, suspecting an illness, or self-quarantining. Our focus is to protect one another and keep each other safe. If your child shows symptoms, please continue to err on the side of caution and keep them home. If your child is out for an extended period, communicate with their teacher(s) and work can be provided asynchronously in Seesaw (K - 2) or Google Classroom (3 - 5).
Here on campus, we continue to promote handwashing, use of hand sanitizer (in the classroom and throughout the building), and use of sanitizing wipes to clean classrooms' high touch point areas throughout the day. Masks continue to be available in the front office. Outdoor areas are encouraged for eating and working throughout the day. Students are using their own supplies and carrying them to Specials. Other materials are wiped down or sprayed between use. Students are staying together with their homeroom pods for Specials, lunch and class.
In addition, we will limit visitors or volunteers on campus to an as needed basis until numbers start to decrease in the community. We will try to welcome lunch visitors after the October Break.
All of us here at at SWE appreciate your flexibility, understanding and support as we tackle these continued challenges of the pandemic together. If you need anything, please reach out at shannon.lalmansingh@humbleisd.net or call me at 281-641-3000.
Stay safe Stars!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello, my name is Shannon Kinniebrew, and I'm the school counselor at SWE. I'm excited to share that this year I'm meeting with each student on campus through individual meetings! This is a special time for students to tell me about themselves, their strengths, and their goals for the future. In our guidance lessons this year we'll continue growing in our Great 8 Social & Emotional Learning Skills, especially in the areas of optimistic thinking, self management, goal directed behavior, and relationship skills. If you believe your student could benefit from additional counseling services please visit my website at https://www.humbleisd.net/Page/9936 or email me directly at shannon.kinniebrew@humbleisd.net. I hope you have a wonderful week. It's going to be a great year here at SWE!

Breakfast & Lunch
Humble ISD will provide free breakfast and lunch to all students.
Students on campus will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge. Students can purchase seconds and a la carte snacks for an additional fee at the register. .
While no application or eligibility determination is required for your student to receive free meals this school year, it is still critical for families to apply for free and reduced meals. This important data allows Humble ISD families to receive benefits such as discounted internet costs, reduced fees for SAT/ACT testing, help with college application fees, potential eligibility if P-EBT benefits are offered in the future, as well as maximizing important state and federal funding for individual schools. Applications are provided online at www.schoolcafe.com.

Volunteering at SWE
Just a reminder that in order to volunteer or chaperone at any Humble ISD school, parents MUST complete a background check per district policy.
This must be completed each school year
Here is the link. It is quick and easy do.
Humble ISD/SWE Volunteer Opportunities
Humble ISD Child Nutrition Department is looking for volunteers to help serve lunch in school cafeterias for a few weeks. Please take a look at the available shifts and consider signing up for a shift (or two) today.
If you or someone you know would be interested in applying for a job within the Child Nutrition department. This is a great job for a parent who wants to be available for their child drop-offs and pick ups at school and still earn some money at a job during the day.

Humble ISD Virtual Learning Option Waitlist
Approximately 2,000 students have chosen virtual learning. Classes were formed based upon parent requests submitted at the end of the 2020-2021 school year and this summer. Parents may place their child on the waitlist by completing the Learning Location Form. In order to provide the best school experiences for all students, the district must monitor class sizes as enrollment numbers fluctuate. At the beginning of the school year, notifications to parents of students on the elementary waitlist will go out no later than the week of August 23. Notifications to the parents of middle and high school students on the secondary waitlist will go out no later than the week of August 30. Students with medical conditions may qualify for homebound instruction. Families with extenuating circumstances prohibiting on campus instruction should contact their child’s principal.

Dismissal Reminders
Some reminders moving forward to help ensure the safety of all our students and staff.
Please ensure that you completed a dismissal form for every child at SWE. Teachers did make calls to those families that were missing forms yesterday, so we knew first day dismissal plans. We still need everyone to complete this form for each child as soon as possible!
Dismissal Times:
3:10 - 4th & 5th Bikers released
3:12 - K - 3 Bikers released
3:15 - 3 - 5 Walkers released
3:17 - K - 2 Walkers released
3:19 - Daycare released
3:20 - Car Riders begin to be dismissed - Students are released from their dismissal classrooms when their car rider number is inputted into our system as parents arrive in the car rider line.
Walkers: Please ensure that your child knows which direction to walk. IF you are meeting your child as a walker, please practice safety. Staff can not let students run across roads to meet you in any spot other than the crosswalk.
Daycare: Please communicate with your daycare provider, if your student has a change of plans and will not be attending.
Car Riders: If your child is assigned as a car rider, it is necessary for you to REMAIN IN YOUR CAR in the car rider line. The Car Rider line will begin to move more quickly as students & parents learn routines. Car rider students will not be called out of their dismissal area for parents who walk up. If you would like to meet your child, students can be reassigned as a walker.
Please communicate ANY dismissal changes to your child's homeroom teacher before midday, if possible. If a change needs to occur later, please contact the main office at 281-641-3000.
