HAPPY WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH!

Watch Six-Year-Old Sophie Cruz Deliver Speech at Women's March on Washington
Here is a speech from 9 year old Sophie Cruz who spoke at the 2017 Women's March.

It is important to remember that although the 19th AMENDMENT granted women the right to vote, this did not apply to women of color, or even men of color. In fact, people of color (Black, Native American, Latinx, Asian Americans) were not given protection to exercise their right to vote until after the 1960s. Today, there are still many inequalities that target gender, race, and citizenship rights. To learn more about about this topic, check out this video.

Yes, Women of Color Could Vote After the 19th Amendment, but Not All Women. Or Men.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT!

~ Jasmine Huntley ~

I was moved by Jasmine earlier this week as she submitted work for Spanish class. We have been focusing Black History Month, Jasmine, went above and beyond with her assignment. Students were given a list of African Americans who have impacted U.S. society and they were to complete a report poster. Jasmine took the initiative to make this assignment her own. Harriet Tubman and George Floyd were not on the list, Jasmine, moved forward and completed her report posters on them. I feel proud to see Jasmine take the initiative in her learning and make this assignment unique to herself. I look forward to continuing to see Jasmine's growth. - From Ms. Godoy

Great job, Jasmine! Keep up the good work!
